    2002 Jeep Liberty - Sport 4x4

    Submitted on 6/23/2001 9:47:06 PM
    Summary

Pros: Its made like a Jeep, has lot of head room.

Cons: The small room in the back for my dog.

Advice: Get the V6 Engn. 3.7L for power/towing

I think the Liberty Sport is a well built SUV, and it's rugged fetures should last a long time on the road & off the road. It handles very well & is very stable around sharp turns. With the V6,3.7L this has the power to get you moving. I give this Jeep a (9+) rating over all.

    Summary

    Pros: NEW V-6 ENGINE

Cons: MPG 16-20 MPG SHOULD BE 20-25 MPG

Advice: GO FOR THE V-6 AND LIMITED VERSION, ALSO SIDE AIR BAGS

I TEST DROVE THE HONDA CRV, TOYOTA RAV4 AND THEY DROVE LIKE A CAR..........THEY SHOULD AS THEY ARE ALL CAR BASED SUV'S AND NOT A REAL OFF ROAD VEHICLE. I ALSO TEST DROVE THE DATED CHEROKEE BEFORE THE LIBERTY AND THOUGHT THE RIDE WAS ROUGH AS IT ALWAYS HAS BEEN. WITH THE BUILD OUT OF THE CHEROKEE GOING ON THEY ARE ALMOST GIVING THEM AWAY AND THE RESALE VALUE WILL DROP LIKE A ROCK. SO I THEN TEST DROVE A LIBERTY AND FOUND IT TO RIDE AND DRIVE AS GOOD OR BETTER THAN THE HONDA AND TOYOTA. I ORDERED ONE ON THE SPOT AT $500 OVER INVOICE WHICH I FELT WAS FAIR AS THE VECHICLE IS NEW AND IN DEMAND. I WENT FOR A LOADED LIMTED AND I WOULD SUGGEST THE NEW V-6 FOR THE ADDED POWER. ONE BAD SIDE, MPG 16 CITY/ 20 HWY.......BUT THIS IS A REAL JEEP, NOT A CAR BASED SUV..........LOVE IT... GET ALOT OF SMILES WHILE I'M DRIVING IT..... MAYBE THIS IS THE NEW 'BUG'.........

    2002 Jeep Liberty - Sport 4x4

    Summary

    Pros: Engine

    Cons: Price

Advice: Really compare apples with apples before you buy

Test drove vehicle, it rides stiff and just a slight bit better than old jeep. The cargo area is small with back seats up, tire is mounted dead center on rear door which makes it difficult to place items in vehicle with flip glass up especially for someone who is not to tall. Has a good engine, very simple interior. After you add all the non standard features, the overall cost of the vehicle is over priced as compared to others. Unfortunately dealers are marking up the vehicle over the MSRP by as much as $3,000 or more, all I can say is remember the Mazda Miata when they came out and now you can't give them away. In the end I chose to purchase a Hyundai Santa Fe SUV, better bargin, warranty, features and ride.
