Pros: Exterior styling
Cons: Lack of cargo/storage space.
Advice: Wait for the 2007 model to see if the problem is corrected...Or, look at Honda/ToyotaWhen I took a closer look at the vehicle, I was disappointed in the lack of cargo space available once we loaded 6-7 persons. Without a trailer/cargo rack...you don't have enough space to keep personal belongings. So, why then do I want the capability of carrying 6-7 people? Other SUV's (Honda and Toyota) do not seem to have this problem. I understand from the Jeep dealer the Commander body is placed on a Cherokee chassis. It seems to me Jeep should invest in a longer wheel based chassis to correct this deficent.
Pros: Blue Tooth and GPS
Cons: Lack of power comppanred to Honda Pilot
Advice: BUY A HONDA PILOT!My Jeep Commander is a classic example of why I always buy Japanese vehicles. This is the only vehicle I have ever owned that I didn't get EPA gas mileage on. Here's reality. Suburban driving wwith some highway, you'll not get 12 mpg. 8,000 miles on this thing and I just made my first appointmment with the service center. I went through a puddle. Now the diagnostics light is on, the engine is knocking and I'm getting 10 MPG on the highway. I asked the service center for a loaner. They told me they could teell me where to rent a car. BUY A HONDA PILOT! I WISH I had mine back. You've been warned.
Pros: I really like the staduim seating and commandview skylights. I also love the fact that jeep finally made an all wheel drive suv.
Cons: Cant think of anything besides the gas, but if you cant afford the gas then dont get the suv!
Advice: spend the extra money on all the options you want, its worth it. I also feel extremely safe in the Commander which is important.I just bought my silver-metalic commander 1 month ago. It ws my first new car so I was affraid I would regret spending the money a few weeks down the line, however, everytime I get into the Commander I am not disappointed. I got the base model, with the U package, leather, navigation and everything else. I would recommend this package over the limited package, because the only thing you really miss is the chrome and smart-beam headlights, but you save a few thousand dollars. I was able to talk the dealer down over 3,000 dollars on my Commander, so stay firm on your first offer, you'll get it!! My friends all agree, that for the class and size of the suv, the Commander gives the most for the money, infact most preferred the Commander over the H3, Pathfinder, or Explorer, and even the overpriced Toureg.
Pros: All the safety features this vehicle has. CHECK WITH YOUR LOCAL DEALER.
Cons: Not applicable
Advice: Check the quality, features, handling and yes price. Do not let price make your decision.I not only test drove the new 2006 Commander, I purchased one for my wife of 38 years. I have been a new car sales rep. for 36 years and this is one of the finest SUV'S that I have ever driven.I have also been a Jeep sales rep. for the last 6 years and I have been fortunate in my business that I can purchase what I want in the market place. Price is not the important factor in my decision to purchase this vehicle. Safety, equipment, stability and handling caracteristics were very important in my decision. I have the 3,7 litre v6 and it is more than sufficient for this Jeep to do its job effectively. The quality control in this vehicle is excellent and I dare anyone who thinks that the foreign car manufacturers have any special gift in producing any thing better other than an image look that spells out Lexus,Infinity,Acura or even Mercedes. Believe it or not the Commander is as quiet as a Lincoln Town Car and yes I am also a Town Car Sale Rep. I am not telling any one to buy a new Jeep Commander but I know in my heart and 36 years experience in the business it is the best purchase you can make.
Pros: The height and room of the Jeep.
Cons: The doors slam pretty easy.
Advice: Don't get the hemi Limited. Get the Commander with all of the options. Same luxury for 10,000.00 less.I really must say. The test drive of this vehicle made my wife and I to fall in love with this truck. We were looking at Denali's, Tahoe's, Armada's. When we drove this, we had to have one. I have a Jaguar XJR, that I thought was the most comfort and luxury that you could get. But our 4 X 2 Commander with the 4.7, loaded with leather, commander view with power moonroof, cd changer, mildly powerful stereo, made our Jag sit in the garage. I suffer from a knee injury, and the room and comfort surpass the competition. Don't waste your money on the Hemi, the 4.7 has plenty of power. You will not like the gas mileage when you stomp on the gas though. NOW GO GET YOUR COMMANDER!!!!!!!!!!!
Pros: The entire interior on the Limited 4x4.
Cons: The road noise.
Advice: Consider the 2 wheel drive. This is a very nice and luxurious vehicle for the price. The only down fall I find is two-fold. 1.) Very little room in the second row if the seats are more than half way back. there is excellant room in the third row. 2.) There is more road noise on the 4wheel drive than I like. You can really hear the tires and road. So much that I had to raise the volume of the stereo on my test drive. Otherwise, I am in love with this vehicle and it's look.
Pros: The large seats and extra leg room.
Cons: When you get in the cover over the seat controls pops out of place.
Advice: Check out the big differences between the Jeep Commander standard and the Limited.I test drove the Commander with the regular engine. The HEMI seems to best fit the vehicle. It is very roomy and I like the body style of the vehicle. I don't exactly know how you would get adults in the back row of seats. Very catchy vehicle in my opinion.
