Almost perfect design
Pros: The looks, dash layout, and driving comfort.
Cons: The 3rd row seat is useless, never used, and forced the 2nd row to be less roomy than it should.I love the tough-looking squared-off looks of this vehicle. It has been mechanically very sound, and after 102,000 miles, still looks new, inside and out, despite some pretty heavy on-road and off-road use. The fit, finish, and overall build quality has been superb. The dash layout and seating position/comfort is perfect. My only complaint about the design of this vehicle is the cramped 2nd row seating. This should have been much roomier for an SUV this size. It is clearly compromised by the presence of 3rd row seating, which for me is completely useless and stays permanently folded down. Had this SUV been designed as two-row seating only, with plenty of 2nd row leg room, it would be the perfect SUV in my opinion.
Pros: retro look
Cons: poor reliability
Advice: find something else, its not worth the riskI bought this car with 17k miles on it in early 2007. Since then, I have replaced the torque converter, the starter, and have continuously brought it to the dealer for odd loss of power when the electronic stability control kicks in for no reason (backing out of uphill driveways, small bumps in the road) Twice now my car has had the malfunction indicator light on blinking which means tow me! The first time the dealer (not my regular) the computer codes were fictitious and that I needed new tires. This time it is still in the shop (2 hours from home) many computer codes came up and the first thing they are doing is putting in a new crank sensor so they can get the car to start! I love my car, but its not worth the hassle or the worry everytime I go on vacation! I could use some help on how to fix this!
Pros: stereo buttons on steering wheel
Cons: wind noise, gas mileage on sticker is a LIE!!!!!
Advice: Do not buy. Chrysler's service people are horrible. This truck has 20,000 miles on it now. It has been in the shop 8 times, at two different dealers. Both dealers are unable to fix the 'Screaming' wind noise, which is only 2 decibels lower than OSHA considers hazardous to hearing. The seals around all wiindows and sunroof are leaking. The CD Changer takes about 2 minutes to change to a new CD. The gas mileage is about 10-12 mpg. We are trading this vehicle in as soon as possible. Will never own another Chrysler product. We understand that new models sometimes have kinks, but Chrysler has been no help at all, in fact they have been nothing but hateful and evasive about the whole process of getting it fixed. We have 3 small children , and are completely unable to take this truck on long trips because of the loud scream coming from the windshiled and sunroof. Worst vehicle ive ever owned. DO NOT BUY!!!!!!!
Pros: exterior appearance
Cons: inferior paint job, the number of issues
Advice: buy Grand CherokeeI was dazzled by the new design so I purchased a 2006 Jeep Commander brand new in June of 2006. From the start, it was clear that the exterior paint job was inferior. The paint would scratch if brushed by a branch(still does). The seat belt in the third row was defective and had to be replaced. The second row seat belt is now defective and will have to be replaced. And speaking of third row seats, only a midget or little person can sit back there comfortably. The brakes are skipping. I have had it in to the shop on two separate occassions for tire repair. I am now wishing I kept my Grand Cherokee.
Pros: the body style
Cons: upholstery staining
Advice: research other vehiclesI have just replaced the starter on my Jeep and it only has 46,000 miles on it(a bit premature I feel).I am also disappointed with the cloth upholstery,it shows even water spots! I have also had a seat belt latch replaced and it is broken again-this time the dealer is trying to charge me $121.00 to replace the $15.00 seat belt latch, part and labor!!!I am getting worried that I have a lemon! Hope things get better,Chrysler has not been much help!Poor customer service!
Pros: the caro space and 3rd row seating
Cons: now it's just the way it drives
Advice: give yourself some other options to choose from before you decide on this one.I have had a problem with the power steering. It completely went out on me while driving in a curve at 65mph. i had to have it towed back to the dealership. They fixed this by replacing the power steering pump, but it still didn't drive right the steering felt loose. I had to take it back once more to change out the whole rack and pinion steering. I like the potential of this vehicle, but after driving it for a year, it doesn't feel the same as when I first test drove this vehicle. I traded my 2000 jeep grand cherokee that I loved for this car.
Pros: sunroof passanger
Advice: just because one person had a bad experience with their vehicle, does not mean all commanders are the same.cant complaint! Turned out to be a very good suv. I have drove through thick snow, high water, rough terrain and yet to experience any troubles.
