Why the 2015 Jaguar F-Type Coupe Matters:
Jaguar brings its first true sports car in 51 years into its fullest form with the production launch of the 2014 Jaguar F-TYPE Coupe. Based on the concept C-X16, which launched at the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show, the Jaguar F-Type Coupe hardtop joins the lineup alongside the existing F-Type convertible. This time, Jaguar added a range-topping "R" model that beats the drop top's power by 55 horses via a 5-liter supercharged V8 engine with 550 horsepower that can move from 0-60 mph in 4.0 seconds.
What’s New for the 2015 Jaguar F-Type Coupe:
- Completely new F-Type Coupe design that adds a hardtop trim to the existing Jaguar F-Type lineup.
- Addition of an "R" model with 550hp 5-liter supercharged V8 engine.
- Coupe is not offered in a 495hp V8S trim, but that trim is still available in the convertible version.
- New electronic active differential and torque vectoring system is added.
- Optional Carbon Ceramic Matrix braking system available.
- Additional trunk space - fits two golf bags.
New 2015 Jaguar F-Type Coupe: What's Under the Hood?
The big news here is that the Jaguar F-Type R Coupe engine now features a 5.0-liter, 550-hp supercharged V8. The F-Type R can reach 60 mph in 4.0 seconds with a top speed of 186 mph. For higher ranges, it can go from 50 to 75 mph in a mere 2.4 seconds. Even more performance comes from adaptive dynamics that adjust the Jag's body movements, making the car much stiffer than the convertible version. For handling the twists and turns, a new electronic active differential and torque vectoring system controls the amount of torque sent to each wheel.
New 2015 Jaguar F-Type: Styling and Design
Happily, the F-Type Coupe design is not too far afield from Jaguar's original C-X16 concept shown at the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show, which was caused plenty of excitement at the time. With its sloped back and long, protruding hood, many compare its sexy silloutte to the beloved E-Type, a car that defined Jaguar in the 1960's. Twin 'shark gill' openings and 'J blade' running lamps create an intimidating, but beautiful front view and the optional panoramic glass roof panels create a pleasing graphic dimension as the car drives away.
New 2015 Jaguar F-Type Coupe: New Features and Technology
All F-Type models have Intelligent Stop/Start technology to help conserve fuel which stops the engine from idling while the foot is on the brake at a complete stop. The Trifield audio system from Meridian is the top option with up to 12 speakers outputting up to 770W of ear-bleeding power.
Jaguar F-Type offers three different modes of driving dynamics that fit your driving mood -- Dynamic Mode, Dynamic Launch and Active Sport.
New 2015 Jaguar F-Type Coupe: What Autobytel Thinks
Jaguar's design chief Ian Callum, famously known for his involvement in designing the Aston Martin DB7 back in the early 90's, has seen his latest beauty become a beast in the Jaguar F-Type. Although nobody, including Jaguar, expects huge volumes to be sold, the F-Type, now in coupe mode, will certainly continue to provide an excellent halo effect for an English luxury brand that has survived several corporate owners.
