The Infiniti EX35 is a luxury crossover SUV that debuted for the 2008 model year. In North America, the specific vehicle model is known as the Infiniti EX35. The European version is known as the Infiniti G37. The EX35 is intended to compete with such competitor vehicles as the Acura RDX, Land Rover LR2 and BMW X3.
Infiniti EX35 Styling
The Infiniti EX35 is built on the Infiniti FM platform, which is also used for the Infiniti G35, Infiniti M, Infiniti FX and Nissan 350Z. The EX also borrows many styling cues from its G35 cousin, including sleek styling and a large Infiniti grille. Included among the exterior innovations is a "self-healing" paint technology that has the ability to automatically fill in small scratches.
Inside, the Infiniti EX is one of the most luxurious crossovers on the market. High-end materials are used throughout and curved lines wrap controls around the driver for a comfortable and appealing aesthetic. The vehicle seats up to five passengers, though experts and drivers alike have complained about a lack of legroom for rear occupants. The low roofline may also make the EX feel smaller than competitor vehicles.
Infiniti EX35 Trim Levels
The Infiniti EX35 is available in two trim levels – base and Journey. The base model is well-equipped with such standard features as air conditioning with automatic climate control, interior air filter, cruise control, 8-way power driver's seat, 4-way power passenger seat, leather-wrapped steering wheel with radio controls, full power accessories, split folding rear seat, remote keyless entry, keyless ignition, stereo system with CD player and MP3 connectivity, satellite radio, rear wiper and washer, fog lights, rear spoiler and 17-inch alloy wheels.
The upscale Infiniti EX Journey adds leather seats, power sunroof, automatic day/night rearview mirror, power folding split rear seat, compass, garage door opener and automatic headlights. Available optional upgrades include heated front seats, driver memory system, high-end stereo system, steering-linked adaptive headlights, roof rails and wood interior trim.
Infiniti EX35 Performance
The Infiniti EX35 is available with one engine option – a 3.5-liter DOHC V6 that delivers 297 horsepower and 253 lb-ft. of torque. This engine is the same power plant found in the Infiniti G35. Mated to the EX35 engine is a 5-speed automatic transmission that features manual-shift capability. Traction control is also standard.
Both vehicle trim levels are available with an optional AWD package that adds all-wheel drive and a locking center differential. Based on EPA estimates, the EX achieves 16 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway.
Infiniti EX35 Safety
The Infiniti EX boasts a number of standard safety features, including dual front airbags, front side airbags, side curtain airbags, 4-wheel antilock disc brakes, an antiskid system, brake assist and tire-pressure monitor. The EX Journey also adds front and rear obstacle detection. In NHTSA government crash tests, the EX crossover earned a perfect 5-star rating in the categories of driver and rear passenger side impact. In all other categories, the vehicle earned a 4-star rating.
