The countdown is on for the 2014 SEMA Show, and the horsepower is up—way up—for the 2015 Hyundai Sonata that will make its debut there. More specifically, the long-time Hyundai performance partners at Bisimoto engineering found a way to squeeze an extra 523 hp from the car's standard 2.4-liter four-cylinder powerplant, which now provides a full 708 horses for the 2015 Hyundai Sonata show-stopper; the Dodge Challenger Hellcat makes a mere 707 hp.

And it's further worth noting that the 2015 Hyundai Sonata is flex-fuel capable and delivers that output from half the number of cylinders as the Hellcat, thanks to a Turbonetics TNX 82/64 turbocharger and a slew of upgraded engine components. In fact, to ensure the 2015 Hyundai Sonata show car was more than just for show, Bisimoto had to custom fabricate a number of pieces just for SEMA.

Boasted Bisi Ezerioha, owner and chief engineer of Bisimoto Engineering: “Outrageous power is nothing without reliability, and it was a firm goal to retain the reliability that Hyundai is known for. After hundreds of hours of testing, failure analysis and prototyping, 18 new products will be engineered and produced in house to produce 708 horsepower from the Sonata.”

Naturally, the SEMA team also complemented that power-up with plenty of chassis and suspension mods, as well as a comprehensive design makeover, and the Bisimoto-backed 2015 Hyundai Sonata also will roll into SEMA with:

  • A Bisimoto roll-cage and splitter, along with a Bisimoto-spec Action Ironman clutch
  • Exterior appearance enhancements, including a laminated body wrap by Extreme Autoweks and additional graphics by Type 2
  • Aero body pieces from Wasp Composites
  • Muffler (including hardware) by Burns Stainless
  • 18-inch Fifteen52 Tarmac aluminum wheels with ARP wheel studs

Added Ezerioha: “With a proven and efficient 2.4-liter engine as a starting platform and a sophisticated, sleek, four-door design, the 2015 Sonata was the perfect candidate for this year’s build."

The industry-only 2014 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show is scheduled to open November 4 of this year In Las Vegas. The 2015 Hyundai Sonata is at local Autobytel dealerships right now, with MSRPs that open at $21,150.
