Good but boring
Pros: Ride
Cons: does not take turns well
I like my '09 Sonata, as it rides great, gets good MPG 30.3 a long trip and has great interior I have 35,000 miles already But it lacks handling precesion, and good 0-30 time, I belive the 2010 address observations.

Transmission sours overall opinion
Pros: engine - smooth and gets great gas mileage with performance
Cons: Transmission issues
3.3L engine with auto trans-will hesitate and then slam into gear 2nd and 3rd and will also slam into these gears when decelerating. Hyundai has a problem with the transmission and the dealers nit pick it. I just had mine in the shop and they updated the software -which should be a recall item. The care shifts better with the update but it's still a hard shift. I drove Pontiacs for years and couldn't tell when it shifted unless I watched the Tach (I got rid of two Bonnevilles this year because GM won't acknowledge they are as water tight as a sponge. Other than transmission I enjoy the car.

Far above expectations
Pros: performance
Cons: No full sized spare tire
The car performs like a sports car yet when driven like the 'family sedan', is very calm and will give anyone the feeling of a safe and friendly vehicle. Hyundai Service Personnel are by far the most cooperative I have encountered.

2009 Hyundai Sonata - GLS (M5)
Submitted on 6/23/2009 5:10:27 PM- Summary
Pros: The USB port for music. All other car companies force you to buy expensive adapters to connect your MP3 player.
Cons: Interior dash styling. Radio LED display is at an angle that makes reading it nearly impossible when it's sunny.
Advice: Decided if the flaws are worth the cost savings over a Honda or Toyota.
Highway mileage is as advertised. I've topped off at 33.8. Daily mix of city/hwy averages about 27. Not as solidly built as Honda or even Kia. Closing doors and especially the trunk gives a 'tinny' sound. I bought it with the 'Popular Package'. The Automatic headlights sensor isn't adjustable. The headlights & instrument panel lighs come on 10 minutes after you're no longer able to see the dashboard instruments. You can compensate by keeping the headlights on all the time. They turn off when you shut off the car. But, you paid for automatic headlights you can't use. The 10 year 'warranty' is debatable. If you miss anything on the maintenance schedule, it could void the warranty. I bought it for the price. It is a nice car to drive. Very comfortable for passengers and I don't regret the purchase. It will be paid off long before a Honda or Toyota would be, but I just needed to let everyone know that there are some flaws. You do get what you pay for.
