Pros: Leather seats
Cons: slight wind noise at 75mph around the side mirrors
Advice: Remember to test drive both the automatic and the 5 speed. They drive differently. The quality of this car is just amazing. I've researched many other cars in this class and non have the gas millage with the large engine (for its class). I purchased the GT with a 5 speed manual and it is a blast to drive. With other adults in the car i dont feel crowded in. There is power in any gear. The leather seats are so luxerious. The sound system is crisp and clear. I look at this car and it says DRIVE ME.
Pros: Gas Mileage
Cons: No factory CD Premium Sound
Advice: Stop shoppingI've owned my '04 Elantra GT for 9 months and 14000 mi. now and can't believe what I got for around $14,000. I get 27 to 29 mpg in town and 36 on the road at 70 mph. I drive mostly highway at 75 to 80 mph, crank up the great 200 watt CD player, set the cruise and appreciate the money I saved! If it only had ABS and 16' wheels, it'd be perfect for the bucks.
Pros: interior layout
Cons: no trunk release on the remote
Advice: buy the GTI drove just about every car in this class and decided the 2005 Hyundai Elantra GT was the best buy for the money. I was looking for a sporty car that would give me decent gas mileage. I bought the automatic as I have a performance car so there was no need for me to buy the 5 speed. I do my own maintenance and this car has more room under the hood than many other cars in its class. I would buy it again.
Pros: Purple background lighting in the instrument cluster.
Cons: Should have an option for larger wheel/tire package.
Advice: Get a 5 speed. Its the only way to drive.I previously owned a 2002 Elantra GLS and traded it in for a 2005 Elantra GT 5dr. I was already happy with my GLS but wanted a new car again. I put 57,000 miles on the GLS without any problems, so I decided to get another Elantra. I'm glad I got a GT this time. The suspension is a whole lot sportier, the CD player sounds good and the leather is nice also. The cargo space on the 5dr is so much better than on the sedan. I've owned or own a Honda Civic, Toyota Rav4, Toyota Tercel, Mitsubishi Eclipse and a Mazda MPV. The Hyundai Elantra is as good or better than those vehicles. I'm sticking with Hyundai.
Pros: warantee...5 year bumper to bumper
Cons: CD is missing on the standard
Advice: Check both transmissions before selecting. This car ran flawlessly right off the dealers lot. I had 5 people in the car and the acceleration and handling was great. After testing the Honda Civic and god forbid Dodge Neon, this was by far the best running car. After all the incentives and rebates this car was a must have, and I did buy a 2005 Elantra GLS. The only thing I wish I had done was try the 5 speed, since some reports say this is the best pick for this model. Also, I wish the CD was standard. Who uses casettes any more? Can't beat the price, quality and garantee! But one and see for yourself!
Pros: Just one? Room, ride, acceleration, interior
Cons: mast antenna instead of in glass
Advice: Buy one!Wow! I test drove an Elantra today and planning to buy one tomorrow. The reviews on this vehicle are as advertised. I've driven several compact cars and the Elantra has the most leg room of any I've been in. As a 6 footer, I automatically push the seat all the way back when I get in a compact car. And I actually moved it forward after pushing it back in the Elantra! Ride and acceleration were great. Better than my Civic. I've read Hyundai reliability has improved tremendously since the 1990s and is now above average. And that 10 year powertrain warranty! Not to mention the Elantra is a couple grand less than Honda, Toyota, Mazda. I tested the midsize Sonata but to me the difference in room was not much for the extra $2200.
Pros: It's value.
Cons: Haven't found anything yet.
Advice: Don't look at just one dealer. If your area has more than one get them to fight for your bussness.I shopped for a new car at Hyundai and Saturn considering I have owned both. The Elantra was the winner in comfort, equipment, and looks. It was a plus when I found out that I saved money too!
