Getting firsthand information from an actual car owner is one sure way to get an idea of car performance once it leaves the lot. Autobytel features real consumer reviews that give the unbiased experience of a car.
Pros: The badass high-revving engine...
Cons: The soft top... I'll soon replace it with a hard carbon fiber top!
Advice: Drive it like you stole it!Plain and simple; this is a race car for the streets! Countless amounts of potential mods to make it even faster. The NA high-revving engine was definately the selling point for me. I have owned turbo cars in the past, but the response of an NA engine is tough to beat. Not to mention the nearly prefect weight distribution (thanks to the engine being tucked back near the firewall). With practice, you can easily control the car like an extension of your body. Understeer and oversteer conditions can be acheived at your very command. The 6-speed tranny shifts like a dream and heel-toe downshifts can be done seamlessly. There's nothing bad that I can say... You could totally turn this car into a track / street monster if that is your desire (and if you have the cash). Overall a fantastic package for the price!
Pros: The 6 speed transmission
Cons: Lack of oil and amp meters
Advice: Do not allow the dealer to charge ADC or other extra chages.A no frills sports car, a drivers car, not for the freeway. The car is best on the twisty side roads. While it is capable of running all day at speeds of over 130mph, it is happiest at its cornering and performance limits. It is not a car for the faint-hearted. If you can keep the engine rpm's below 5000, you can get 30mph.
Pros: Precision handling
Cons: Interior storage compartments
Advice: WHTCH SPEEDAll I can say is the car is absolutely exhilerating. It handles like no other car I ever owned or driven and that encludes the Boxster, BMW and even the new Corvettes. I bought the car with the Aero Package and appearance wise it makes a big difference. The car is very quick especially in the 6,000 to 8000 RPM range. The torque on the low end is a little weak however, it seems to work perfectly when your just cruising along normally but when you want it to jump into the big league, just hit the petal and let it rev to 8000 RPM and you wont believe it' the same car. Excellent, Excellent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FAST, PRECISION HANDLING, QUALITY WORKMANSHIP and GOOD LOOKING. AN EXCELLENT BOY TOY
Pros: the V-Tec kicks in at 6000rpm, so dont be scared! It's like a rocket booster!
Cons: It's cool, but hard to get used to the 'engine start' button
Advice: get the z-rated low-profile weather tread tires -they counteract a lot of the squirrelinessThe car was called a slot-car by my buddies. It drives like it's on rails! I can take a 90 degree corner at 40mph without even a though of sliding. I drove it from the dealership in the rain with my boyfriend following in his vette. I ate his lunch and BONUS no hydroplaning.
Pros: Convertible top operation
Cons: there isn't anything about the car I don't like
Advice: compare to BMW and Porshe and you'll buy and have money left overSpectacular roadster. 0-60 acceleration tests at 5.5, and 1/4 in 14 sec./100 mph. Top end = 150. Yet the true strength of this car is the handling. Cornering is literally similar to driving a go-kart. With almost perfect 50/50 ft/rear balance, great tires, rear drive and a wide stance, this car gives you great confidence in all cornering situations. It's also a rush to take the gears up near the redline and have the cams kick in. . .the torque is awesome, and apparently now much more useful with the retuned 2.2 liter v. the previous 2 liter engine. Beautiful car in black, and the compliments are never-ending.
Pros: sound, handling and looks
Cons: A little more tourque.
Advice: It's a race car not a commuter car. Drive it like one if it's what you decide to buy.I drove both the 2003 and 2004 S and it was a tough decision. I settled on the 2004! I like the mods to the interior and the better drivability at lower revs. Not to say I didn't like 9000 rpm. My s2000 is in the 6 to 8 k 60% of the time. I love the sound. My wife and I use it for long drives and feel its very comfortable. It has some engine and road noise but thats the beauty of it.
Pros: Handling..fun to drive
Cons: Conv. top should be designed to fold into the body as the 350Z.
Advice: What with Honda quality, reliability and engineering..you can't go wrong..Brought it used in '03. Just love the performance and handling. More H.P. and torque would be great. At 6'-2' the car fits like a glove and is fun to drive. Never had a car get so many 'neat/nice/sharp/sexy car' comments at various stops/intersections. I consider it a 'hobby' car for April-Oct. in Wis. fair weather. It's a blast. Would like a conv. top which folded in the body as the new 350Z Nissan does.
