Changes for the 2014 Honda Odyssey:
Honda’s popular minivan gets minor exterior styling changes, major structural upgrades, and a standard 6-speed automatic transmission that results in a slight uptick in fuel economy for the LX, EX and EX-L trim levels.
Additionally, Honda makes upgrades in terms of standard equipment. The base LX now comes with Bluetooth connectivity, text messaging capability, Pandora Internet radio access, and a power front passenger’s seat. The EX adds LaneWatch blind spot monitoring, push-button ignition, and HondaLink services. The EX-L now includes Forward Collision Warning and Lane Departure Warning systems, while the top-of-the-line Touring Elite adds HD Radio and an upgraded sound system. Neat freaks will rejoice at the addition of an on-board vacuum cleaner for the Touring Elite model.
The 2014 Honda Odyssey is sold in LX, EX, EX-L, Touring, and Touring Elite trim levels. Upgrading to the Odyssey EX adds aluminum wheels, keyless push-button starting, triple-zone automatic climate control, power sliding side doors, and heated exterior mirrors. With the EX you’ll also receive a right-side blind spot information display called LaneWatch, a 10-way power driver’s seat, a removable front center console, and a second-row able to seat three people.
To get leather upholstery, buy the Odyssey EX-L, which also includes a power sunroof, heated front seats, a power tailgate, a cooled beverage compartment, a Lane Departure Warning system, and a Forward Collision Warning system. Options for this model include a choice between a navigation system and a rear-seat DVD entertainment system.
The Odyssey Touring includes the navigation system and the rear-seat entertainment system, plus 18-inch aluminum wheels, fog lights, and front and rear parking sensors.
At the top of the lineup, the Touring Elite features an upgraded rear-seat entertainment system with a bigger screen and HDMI inputs, an enhanced audio system with HD Radio, a blind-spot information system that works for both sides of the van, and xenon HID headlights. You’ll also get to experience the glory of an instantly clean interior with the HondaVAC onboard vacuum cleaner.
Engines and Transmissions:
A 248-horsepower, 3.5-liter V-6 engine powers every 2014 Odyssey, driving the front wheels through a 6-speed automatic transmission. The Odyssey can tow up to 3,500 pounds when properly equipped.
Fuel Economy Ratings:
All versions of the 2014 Odyssey are rated to deliver 19 mpg in the city, 28 mpg on the highway, and 22 mpg in mixed driving.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) had not performed crash tests for the 2014 Honda Odyssey as this summary was written. In testing conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the Odyssey earned a “Top Safety Pick Plus” designation, which means it passed the tough new small overlap frontal-impact test.
Many of the updates to the 2014 Honda Odyssey pertain to technology. Standard equipment includes the connectivity and convenience items most modern buyers want, while the popular EX model offers a blind-spot information system and HondaLink services. Additional safety, entertainment, and convenience features are offered on higher trim levels.
