Deep in the heart of Ontario, California is not a place where you ordinarily expect to find the workings of a determined genius amidst a rather peculiar industrial warehouse development that features myriad sculptures of elephants, tigers, lions and other African wildlife in the middle of what would ordinarily be called the road. But apparently the developer of this particular industrial subdivision loved hunting big game so his animalistic sculptures are meant to speak to that and to remind you to always watch the road as you just might be killed by a giant metal hippo.
But once you get past the odd surroundings, you just might find yourself lucky enough to get a tour of Bisimoto Engineering, the brainchild of tuner genius Bisi Ezerioha. You might remember him from last year’s SEMA show when he “adjusted” a 2011 Honda CR-Z to pump out over 500 horsepower all while still using the little Honda’s original hybrid system. Most tuners of CR-Z’s simply remove all of the batteries out of laziness but from the moment you meet Bisi you know that he never does anything the easy way.
Case in point is what stands as one of his maddest creations—an utterly out of control 800 horsepower 1988 Honda Civic “tall boy” Wagon that he used to call his “daily driver.” No, he didn’t stop using it because the wheels totally lose grip under full throttle acceleration but rather it was because he kept catching people trying to steal it. Yes, this 800 horsepower force of nature is actually quite comfortable to drive around town unlike most high power tuner specials. And it gets a LOT of attention.
Once we got past being impressed with how user friendly 800 horsepower could be in a car this small and light, Mr. Ezerioha decided to unleash the full wrath of this family wagon on a deserted stretch of road devoid of animal sculptures. Never before have we traveled so fast on four tiny patches of rubber and never before have we felt so deliciously out of control. It was an adrenaline tinged delight and an experience that Bisimoto Engineering can clearly bring out of any car in the universe. Lord knows they did with this monster of a robin’s egg blue 1988 Honda Civic Wagon. This is a car we will well and truly never forget.
