Easily one of the most versatile cars on offer today, Honda’s Civic Coupe enjoys near universal admiration across a broad spectrum of the car buying public. The sleekly sophisticated look of the car, along with its technically brilliant powertrain configurations and generous features list, make it a popular choice.

What’s more, the Civic Coupe boasts a comfortable ride, entertaining handling, a spacious interior, and an upscale look and feel—all of which can be had for remarkably reasonable money. While we’re on the subject of interior appointments, Civic Coupe can also be outfitted with a nice selection of today’s top tech features.

Without question, Honda’s Civic Coupe is one easy-to-like automobile.

Styling

Seen in profile, the Civic Coupe appears to knife forward, even when it is at rest. Another model eschewing the traditional three-box styling strategy, Civic Coupe's appearance is one fluidly sculpted automobile. The arching roofline ensures plenty of room for front-seat passengers and excellent outward visibility. The pronounced arch at the front wheels telegraphs the little coupe’s front drive powertrain, while the rest of the body is seemingly given over to the passenger compartment.

Which is why, from the side, it looks as if the Coupe has no trunk at all. But it does, one good for 11.7 cubic feet of cargo. It’s not exactly cavernous by any means—but it is quite adequate for a two-door.

Performance

Power for the Civic Coupe comes from a choice of two engines. The standard powerplant is a 1.8-liter inline four, good for 143 horsepower and 129 ft-lbs of torque. The front-wheel drive powertrain is coupled to a five-speed manual transmission as standard equipment. Upper trim levels offer the choice of a continuously variable transmission.

With the five-speed manual, fuel economy is rated at 31 miles per gallon combined; with the CVT it comes in at 33 mpg combined.

The sporty Civic Si Coupe uses a 2.4-liter inline four with 205 horsepower and 174 ft-lbs of torque. A six-speed manual transmission routes the output to the front wheels. Fuel economy is rated at 25 miles per gallon combined.

Safety

Stability control, ABS, a full complement of airbags, and a rearview camera are listed on the roster of standard Civic Coupe safety features.

Options include rear disc brakes, HondaLink crash notification, and the LaneWatch system. This places a camera in the right-side exterior rearview mirror for a view of the passenger side of the car when the right turn signal is activated. LaneWatch helps ensure drivers bicyclists or other vehicles won’t be affected by their impending turn.

NHTSA ranks the Civic Coupe a four-star car based on its four-star performance rating in frontal crash tests, and five star rating in side impacts. The IIHS awarded Civic Coupe its highest rating (”Good”) in all of its testing.

The $24,590 Civic Si Coupe with Navi constitutes the top of the line on the performance side.
