New 2010 Honda Accord Offers Superior Passenger Space and MPGs

The Honda Accord has long been prized for its impeccable combination of spaciousness, reliability and capable engine performance. For the new year, the new 2010 Honda Accord also delivers one of the best fuel ratings among the large car vehicle class. Keep reading to review specs, features and performance of the new Honda Accord to determine if it is the right vehicle for your daily commute.

New 2010 Honda Accord Styling

The Honda Accord is available in both sedan and coupe body styles. Those wanting a sleeker vehicle with a bit more sports appeal will likely gravitate towards the coupe model. However, both versions boast crisp lines and classic styling that exude a sense of comfort and refinement.

Inside, the latest version of the Accord has grown in proportions. So much so, in fact, that the EPA has officially bumped up its classification to "full-size." While the vehicle's interior takes a conservative approach to styling, the pristine fit and finish is likely to be enough glamour for the average around-town driver. Add in a healthy set of standard convenience features and an attractive dashboard, and the Honda Accord can be considered a near-luxury vehicle.

Thanks to the larger interior, seating is more comfortable than ever. In fact, you'd be hard pressed to find a better sedan for rear passengers. However, trunk space - at 14 cubic feet - is a little on the light side. The coupe model gets by with 11.9 cubic feet.

New 2010 Honda Accord Performance

Honda Accord sedans come standard with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 177 horsepower and 161 lb-ft. of torque. While this starter engine is merely average for its class, many drivers will welcome the tradeoff for improved fuel efficiency. EPA estimates put fuel ratings at 22 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway (25 mpg combined). Given its size, those numbers are exceptional.

For a little more adrenaline, shoppers can opt for a 190-horsepower version of the same 2.4-liter engine (this engine is standard on coupes). The additional horsepower results in only minor fuel losses, with an estimated 21 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway.

Even better power gains can be achieved with a 3.5-liter V6, which purrs with 271 horsepower and 254 lb-ft. of torque. For this top-of-the-line engine, drivers can expect 19 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway.

New 2010 Honda Accord Safety

The Honda Accord has long been known for exceptional safety, and the 2010 model year is no different. The Accord comes standard with six airbags, antilock brakes, stability control and traction control. In crash tests performed by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the 2010 Accord earned a best-possible rating of "Good."

New 2010 Honda Accord Prices

The Honda Accord starts at a wallet-friendly $21,055. Given the vehicle's size and starting feature set, that asking price delivers a fairly good value. Opt for more features and a larger engine, and the Accord's price quickly rises to above $31,000. If you're looking to save a few bucks, consider downgrading in size to the Ford Fusion, Nissan Altima or Mazda MAZDA6. For comparable features and price, take a look at the Chevrolet Malibu. For savings on both price and fuel efficiency, you'll also want to test drive the new Hyundai Sonata.
