A New Name, A New Face and A Few New Tricks

While the Sierra platform may not be all-new, the addition of the Denali trim package—coupled with some ground-breaking technology—compels us to provide a preview of GMC's upcoming offering. The addition of the Denali name fits nicely with the division's new "professional grade" ad campaign.Interior appointments include two-tone leather seating, upgraded surface plastics and a long list of standard equipment usually associated only with GM luxury cars.

The really big news can be found beneath the Sierra Denali. A four-wheel steering system, called Quadrasteer, will be standard on all models. The technology is a first for the pickup truck segment and promises to have the competition scrambling. Quadrasteer technology uses sophisticated electronics to control the direction of the vehicle's rear wheels, giving the full-sized pickup maneuverability comparable to that of a small car. If this seems like an impossible claim, compare the Sierra Denali's turning circle of 37.4 feet with that of the Saturn Coupe, at 37.1. The system also increases the vehicle's stability at highway speeds and when trailer towing. When a situation calls for normal two-wheel steering, the system can be deactivated via a switch on the dashboard.
