2005 Ford Thunderbird - Premium (130A)
Pros: The one hand latching device that secures the soft top to the windshield pillar.
Cons: The hard top requires two people to remove.
Advice: Stay away from the lighter colored interiors. I've seen several come in for service with only a few months usage and the seats are already soiled in the crevaces. I have a black interior and it shows no stains whatsoever. We absolutely love this automobile! I work as a financial services specialist in a Ford dealership and fell in love with the car the moment I saw it in silver (vain isn't it?). The ride comfort is great for a car of this size. I'm 6'2' and have no problem staying in the driver's seat for several hours. My wife has permanent back difficulties and she loves the comfort of the seats as well (the heated seat feature is a welcome addition that all cars should have). The performance at highway speeds is as though this car were powered by a much stronger engine. Cornering and handling are easy due to the tight suspension and excellent damping system of the shocks. The Audiophile CD changer has excellent sound due to the small quarters of the cockpit. My overall driving experience after having owned this car for over a year would be excellent.
2005 Ford Thunderbird - Deluxe (100A)
Pros: Quick and nimble response between 70-80 mph on California hills and mountains
Cons: Blind spots when top is up and lights in rear view mirror at night from large SUV's
Advice: Maybe the best open highway touring car for two in an American carI rented the T-bird as a weekend rental, fell in love with the car, and purchased it the next week. During my 1000 mile round trip over three days, I found the car was nimble, could sustain 80 mph without a strain, had good to excellent gas mileage for V-8 engine, and was comfortable for its size for a larger person. The positive comments and lingering looks told me it would be an excellent buy. With the top down, the noise level was bearable even at 65 mph, but it does have several blind spots on the side with the top up. Night driving is very difficult because of the rear view mirror location, especially when SUVs are close up on you. Still two thumbs up on the car overall.
