Getting firsthand information from an actual car owner is one sure way to get an idea of car performance once it leaves the lot. Autobytel features real consumer reviews that give the unbiased experience of a car.
Cons: comfort with reg cab
Advice: test drive for more then just around block.Seats in reg. cab for tall people don't work well. Ext. cab alot better if over 6ft. Seats are not comfy at all after an hour or so (60/40 bench). Lots of plastic parts, normal for all cars/trucks now anyways. I bought it as work truck so bottom line 4x2 reg cab 4cyl man trans. Great for work truck but would get cruise and tilt if wanted it for more then work or around town.(hard to see gauges with out tilt.
Pros: I like the smoth automatic transmission and overall performace of the truck.
Cons: No day time running lights? But are they worth it?
Advice: Take it from a previous Ranger owner there is none better.I purchased my Ranger 3 weeks ago. It is much better than the previous Rangers or other small trucks out there. Style, power, towing capacity, ride and value for the dollar can't be beat.
Pros: Gas mileage averages around 24 mpg.
Cons: Comfort and usability of features
Advice: Buy something elseThe first thing you notice as you drive this truck is that you cannot see the speedometer, it is blocked by the steering wheel (no tilt). This is just one example of poor design. Both the side and rear view mirrors are too small. The cup holders are poorly positioned. The ashtray is useless, lacking a light, and requiring the driver to lean over to use them; then being impossible to empty. The 60/40 seats are very uncomfortable after more than a 1 hour drive. On the road, stability is a real problem. It bounces side to side at the passing of any large truck, or due to concrete grooves. The gas cap does not have a lock, and you cannot find one in the auto parts stores. I cannot imagine a more poorly designed vehicle.
Pros: cruise control package
Advice: test drivenice, smooth, and quiet. Handled well
Pros: THE HIGHBACK SEATS
Cons: NO FLOOR CARPET
Advice: DRIVE THE OTHERS FIRST AND YOU WILL SEE AND FEEL THE QUALITY IN THIS TRUCK.VERY NICE SMALL TRUCK, GREAT VEIW OF THE ROAD FROM DRIVERS POSITION. GOOD POWER FOR PASSING AND ENTERING THE HIWAY.
Pros: Comfort and ride
Advice: Be willing to walk away, you will get a fare price for this truckI traded a 2002 Ranger XLT w/ a 3.0 liter V6 for a 2004, XLT, 4.0 liter w/the flareside body. They are 2 totaly different trucks. The 2004 suspension has been greatly improved. Highway driving is a pleasure now. No bouncing or jerking, no wind noise and plenty of power for passing. The 4 door package is a plus for this truck. It makes loading and unloading behind the seats very easy. Ford got it right with this small truck and I test drove, and examined every small truck made. I can not express the comfort level that the Ranger has been up graded to. One review indicated that the MSRP on the Ranger is over priced, that it is. However the dealers are more than willing to deal, bringing the price down to where it should be. Good deals can be had for this truck. There is no comparision to this Ranger to previous year models.
Pros: Interior comfort
Cons: Engine/Transmission seems to require more rpm to get going than other vehicles of similar size and hp.
Advice: Coming down from a Dodge 1500 Quad 5.9 Liter - make sure you want the smaller size before you buy it.I have less than 500 miles on it right now but am impressed with the ride. Comfortable and not jumpy like other small trucks. Steering is crisp, precise and easy. Seems to handle rough pavement well with little jarring inside the cab.
