2007 Used Ford Ranger

A 2007 used Ford Ranger represents one of the most deceptive compact truck bargains out there on the market today. Deceptive because the Ford Ranger is able to offer almost all of the utility and practicality of a full-size pickup despite its small size. Another factor that helps to make a 2007 used Ford Ranger so appealing is that it is one of the few compact pickup trucks that can actually claim to be compact, a title that most of its competition gave up in order to move into the mid-size truck category.

One of the benefits of being truly compact has to do with being able to offer great fuel economy, and the four-cylinder edition of the 2007 used Ford Ranger is able to do that quite nicely. The vehicle squeezes 24 miles per gallon during city driving and 29 miles per gallon on the highway out of a 2.3-liter unit that also generates 143 horsepower and 154 lb-ft of torque. This particular motor can be matched with a five-speed manual transmission or a five-speed automatic.

There are also two different V-6 options that can be found on 2007 used Ford Ranger trucks. The first is a 3.0-liter mid-range motor that provides only five more horsepower than the four-cylinder but manages to jack torque up to 180 lb-ft. Fuel economy for this intermediate engine comes in at 18 miles per gallon in the city and 23 miles per gallon on the highway. In terms of balancing power with fuel consumption, the best bet is the 4.0-liter V-6 found in top of the line versions of the 2007 used Ford Ranger. Offering 207 horsepower and 238 lb-ft of torque, this gutsy motor returns fuel mileage that is rated at 17 miles per gallon in stop and go driving and 20 miles per gallon on the highway.

Like the four-cylinder engine, each of the V-6 units can be found paired with a five-speed manual or five-speed automatic transmission. Four-wheel drive is also available across the board, and certain editions of the truck can be found with the FX4 off-road package that adds larger 30-inch all-terrain tires, skid plates, a limited-slip rear end and trail-ready shock absorbers. Some versions of the FX4 also come with Bilstein shocks and even more extensive skid plate protection.

In terms of cab design, you shouldn't have any problem finding either single cab or extended SuperCab editions of the 2007 used Ford Ranger. Bed lengths for the truck start out at six feet (the only available option for SuperCab models) and extend up to seven feet for additional cargo storage. When properly equipped, there are versions of the 2007 used Ford Ranger out there that can tow a hefty 6,000 lbs.
