This past Friday saw Ford announcing that it is acquiring the Michigan-based start-up, Livio, to help the automaker advance their in-car connectivity technologies. Livio specializes in building products and software to support and improve smartphone/car connectivity. Livio's software is currently compatible with several commonly used smartphone apps and works with the major smartphones.

“With the additional expertise Livio provides us, Ford intends to continue to lead the next generation of in-car connectivity with technology advancements that give consumers more options to access their devices on the go,” said Paul Mascarenas, chief technical officer and vice president of Ford Research and Innovation.

Ford hopes with the acquisition of Livio, the two will be able to create an industry standard for smartphone connectivity.
