    2005 Ford Escape - XLS 2.3L Manual (100A) FWD

Pros: Visability and comfort in driving

Cons: Could use more comfortable seats.

Advice: I would say to a potential buyer that the car is great, the XLT is better but if you prefer to get better gas milage, your not losing much in the XLS.

I purchased the XLS which has a 4 cyl. engine and front wheel drive. I would say that the car handles great and is a pleasure to drive. The 4 cyl. engine gets great gas milage, but struggles somewhat up steep hills. But the confort and pleasure that accompanies the drive well makes up for its struggles.

    2005 Ford Escape - Hybrid (300A) FWD

Pros: The gas engine turns off and there is complete silence as though the vehicle is not on

Cons: Don't like the fact you MUST go to specified Ford Dealerships for service

Advice: Do your research.. serious buyers put your name on waiting list... Enjoy the ride

Our test drive came when we purchased this vehicle. We waited for two years for this vehicle to come into production and we are glad we waited. Performance is a whole lot better than we expected. Passing on the highway is smoothe with no hesitation. I must say that pick up from a stationary position is not as easy as a regular gas engine (because the electric engine kicks in before the gas), but it will get some getting use to. Road noise is a little annoying at times (especailly when the radio is off), but this is expected as it is not a luxury vehicle. Overall... great SUV. I never thought I would own a SUV, but now I do and I love this one. Way to go Ford.. you have set the bar for others to beat.

    2005 Ford Escape - Hybrid (300A) FWD

Pros: The fact that i can drive this car from New York to L.A with less than 5 tanks of gas :)

Cons: The way the engine works. It's a little unnerving the first while.

Advice: Be sure to get the proper warranty so that the special hybrid parts are covered.

The acceleration, power and overall behavior of the car and its suspension pleasantly surprised me. I got into the Hybrid as a critic and came out very pleased. I really think now that this is the kind of car everyone will be driving within only a few years. If i was actually looking for a brand new car, i'd buy this one. This vehicle really IS an SUV that consumes very little gas and offers all the features of a normal SUV. While you can't quite expect the acceleration and torque to equal to that of a full-gasoline car; the strength of the hybrid was a surprise. It certainly matches...say...a 2001 Tracker. which is good; as long as you're not looking to race this vehicle uphill. Overall, mechanically it does seem to work as well as any other SUV. Also, if you are mechanically inclined: don't worry about not understanding what is going on under the hood. you can get a basic knowledge of it in under 5 minutes if you actually get to look at the engine(s). seriously, it's surprisingly simple. Esthetically, this is a good looking car. The exterior is neat and aerodynamic and the enterior is roomy and comfortable. new generation features and all. no complaints. The only problem during the entire drive was a psychological one; the way the engine switched from electric to gas automatically and how quiet it was when the car would roll to a stop was almost scary. But after about 20 minutes, i got almost used to it. if i had a few more days, i'd probably get used to it completely. Also, that scared feeling would probably fade away if i actually owned the car and drove it past a gas station once in a while. Because what that technological-quiet equals money being saved. and that annoyingly familiar dependance on the pump fading, of course.

    2005 Ford Escape - XLS 2.3L Automatic (120A) FWD

Pros: Running board on both sides of vehicle.

Cons: No place to put my pocketbook when I have a front seat passenger.

Advice: If your a woman, consider the Chevy Equinox.

I own this vehicle. I like the ride, and the gas mileage, however the only fault I find with the ford vehicles, is that there is no place to put a hand bag that keeps it in close proximity to the driver's seat. Chevy has a space between the seats of their Equinox. That may become my next vehicle only because of the place given for the purse or briefcase. Ford should take note that many women purchase their vehicles and therefore, they should pay attention to the things that women need, as well as what the male population desires. THanks. i OW

    2005 Ford Escape - Limited 3.0L Automatic (500B) FWD

    Pros: visibility easy to park

    Cons: not much storage

    Advice: get the limited

This is my wifes car and it is a great little SUV it handles great and is easy to park. We have had a lot of positive feed back from friends and others who just really liked it. We got the limited loaded but it did not have a compass and outside temp. Ford wanted about $600 for one to be installed at the dealership. We had an aftermarket one installed today for $277. it looks better than fords and it was a very professional job . I cant think of a thing we dont like about.this vehicle altho we have only had it for ten days Max

    2005 Ford Escape - XLT 3.0L Automatic (400B) 4x4

    Pros: V6 power, moonroof, interior

    Cons: gas mileage

Advice: make sure to look into this vehicle if you are in the small SUV market

Just bought an XLT 4x4. The ride is awesome, and is by far the best looking small SUV out there. The V6 provides great power, and I'm glad I didn't settle for the 4 cylinder. The gas does go pretty quick, but not enough to make much of a difference. It averages about 22 mpg. Go for the moonroof if possible.
