Consider this for a moment: according to WebMD, more than half of all Americans test positive to one or more allergens. Ford is working on trying to make their vehicles more bearable for those with allergies, starting with the new 2013 Fusion. The new Fusion features materials and components that were tested for materials such as natural latex and nickel to make sure there was either none or a miniscule amount of the material to help reduce the chance of an allergic reaction.
“Allergies affect large numbers of people, so anything we can do to reduce potential allergens inside Ford vehicles we do through rigorous, controlled testing,” said Linda Schmalz, the supervisor of Core Material Engineering for Ford. Another thing Ford does to reduce potential allergens is to rigorously test cabin filters used in their vehicles to make sure they are filtering airborne particles such as dust, fungus, and pollen from entering the interior.
The new Fusion is also one the first Ford vehicles to come with the SYNC AppLink-compatible Allergy Alert application that allows a driver to find out what allergy conditions outside they are likely to encounter.
