2013 Ford Focus ST Summary

About the 2013 Ford Focus ST:

Ford targets enthusiast drivers with the new 2013 Focus ST model, a performance-tuned version of the Focus 5-door hatchback. The “ST” stands for “Sport Technologies,” and has been used for years in other parts of the world to denote Ford’s performance models.

Model Lineup:

To create the 2013 Focus ST, Ford installs a turbocharged 2.0-liter EcoBoost 4-cylinder engine and a close-ratio 6-speed manual gearbox in the Focus 5-door hatchback. Additional performance enhancements include a sport-tuned suspension, a Ford Sport Steering System, a 3-mode AdvanceTrac stability control system, and 18-inch aluminum wheels wearing P235/40R18 Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 high-performance tires. Unique design details set the Focus ST apart from other Focus models.

Optional Equipment:

Tangerine Scream is a unique paint color offered exclusively for the Focus ST. Additional options include a power sunroof, a 10-speaker Sony premium audio system, MyFord Touch with a navigation system and a color touchscreen display, leather upholstery, and Recaro performance seats.

Engines and Transmissions:

The Focus ST’s turbocharged and direct-injected 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine generates 252 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 270 lb.-ft. of torque starting at 2,500 rpm, enough to propel the car to a 154-mph top speed. A 6-speed close-ratio manual gearbox, equipped with a short first-gear ratio for quick off-the-line launches, directs power to the car’s front wheels. Note that if you can’t operate a clutch pedal, you can’t drive a Focus ST, because no other transmission type is available.

Fuel Economy Ratings:

According to the EPA, the 2013 Ford Focus ST gets 23 mpg in the city, 32 mpg on the highway, and 26 mpg in combined driving. The engine is designed to operate on regular unleaded fuel.

Safety Ratings:

Like other Focus 5-door hatchback models, the Focus ST receives a “Top Safety Pick” rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and a 5-star overall rating from the NHTSA.

Technology Highlights:

MyKey technology is standard on the Focus ST, allowing the owner to program certain vehicle systems. Examples include the ability to limit the car’s top speed, to reduce its maximum stereo volume, and to defeat the ability to turn off the stability control system. Additional technology highlights include available Sync wireless connectivity with 911 Assist, an optional MyFord Touch infotainment system with navigation, and a premium Sony audio system.
