Even better than imagined
Pros: the power, quiet engine and fuel economy
Cons: still getting used to the price tagHad the truck 2 weeks and then headed out on a 4000 mile towing vacation. It pulled my LQ horse trailer full of equipment and horses cross country and over mountain passes in 90+ degree heat without hesitation. Great fuel economy and a very comfortable ride. It's an amazing truck, Ford did their homework and produced a truck that can get the job done. The new hill descent assist was very handy coming out of the mountains.
Great except for MPG
Pros: Towing ability, back seat room.
Cons: Fuel mileageIn the governments infinite wisdom they have made air quality standards on trucks so stringent that in order to meet these standards the manufacturers have had to go to Diesel Particulate Filters. Because of this these vehicles (all manufacturers) have lost 20% on fuel mileage, which means we have 20% more semis hauling fuel to gas stations that are also suffering from reduced fuel mileage because they are under the same restrictions. What did we gain? We tow often with our pickup grossing up to 30,000 lbs. This F-350 handles it with ease. Fantastic vehicle.
Cons: Fuel Mileage
Advice: Suggest the electric interim cab heater option. Engine doesn't warm too quicklyI recently traded in my '99 F-350 diesel dually on a new 09 truck of the same model description. The '99 diesel was used to carry a large camper. The powerband on that truck came on like a tugboat with ample power for any task; as the RPMs built, the power would come on smoothly and slowly build. The 2009 diesel comes on like a tugboat on steroids. What a profound difference in performance. The turbos on the new engine make all the difference in the world. almost feels like a sports car. This is a well thought out design and a truck worth owning.
Pros: The ride
Cons: Ride and looks
Advice: You will have to be the judge of what you want,I do know they are haveing a LOT of problems with headgaskets. We purchased this truck new on 9/24/04 and it did a good job untill 8/31/05.It overheated with just short of 14,000 mileas on it.The truck was in the shop from 9/1/05 untill 9/12/05 for head gaskets. The next day 9/13/05 it stranded us on the WV turnpike with a broken turbo hose clamp. On the following day 9/14/05 the check engine light came on and we were stranded for two days while a turbocharger was installed. On 10/25/05 the main fuel line came loose at the secondary filter which is located on the engine and we were again stranded, the truck was taken to a ford dealer on the 10/26/05 for a complete safty inspection and cleaning. On 11/7/05 the truck stranded us 16 miles from home and had to be towed to another ford dealer, they replaced the high pressure oil pump and sending unit.On 12/31/05 it went to the dealer again for rearend noise and drive shaft noise. It is still there awaiting a rear drive shaft, pinon bearing and carrier bearings for the punkin assembly. What will happen next is a good guess, soon they will have almost rebuilt the truck.
Pros: Rides great on Freeway. Integrated Tow Command system.
Cons: Larger size than GM (500lbs heavier, larger turning radius, taller cab and bed height)
Advice: If you really need HD towing, go Ford SD.Upgraded from GMC 2500HD. Better ride, stronger frame, handles RV in Tow (8500lbs) with ease. Breaks are stronger. Powerstoke feels stronger. GMC Driver Info Center is nicer. Miss integrated XM Radio only offered on GM products.
