Not satisfied with just offering some of the most capable heavy-duty pickups on the planet, Ford is now offering some of the most luxurious ones, too. The 2013 Ford F-Series Super Duty trucks will be available with the Blue Oval’s ultra-premium Platinum package, including a unique version of the SYNC with MyFord Touch system that’s been modified specifically for HD pickup owners.

The revised setup provides all the latest customer-satisfying updates announced previously, then also supplies climate controls and audio presets that were custom-tailored to make them easy to use while wearing work gloves. There’s a new high-res eight-inch touchscreen as well with an integrated rearview camera that makes it a much simpler task to hook up conventional trailers and handle other usually difficult maneuvers.

Of course, the Super Duty Platinum trucks also will showcase the kind of luxury design cues more often found in premium sedans. For example, the exterior wears a new grille treatment with a perforated mesh inset, accented by a satin-chrome grille surround, chrome tow hooks, and a more sophisticated, monochromatic front bumper. And an eye-catching and chrome-lettered “Platinum” nameplate decorates both sides of the pickup’s box, while a satin-chrome applique is used to deliver an upscale finishing touch to the tailgate. The new Super Duty Platinum will roll on 20-inch polished aluminum wheels with black-painted insets and be offered in a choice of five exterior colors: Ruby Red, Kodiak Brown, Tuxedo Black, Ingot Silver and White Platinum.

Turning to the cabin, occupants will enjoy an interior swathed in leather and real wood accents, with a heated, leather-wrapped steering wheel; two leather-upholstered captain’s chairs in the front row, including a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat; and clearly high levels of attention to detail throughout. For added functionality, Ford also has added a new dash-top storage area with two USB ports, audio-visual connections, a slot for SD memory cards, and a 12-volt charging port for cell phones and other digital toys. Interior color schemes will include Pecan and Midnight Black.

Due “later this year,” the 2013 Ford F-Series Super Duty pickups will be offered only with a crew cab, but will be available in F-250, F-350 and F-450 configurations, with a choice of Ford’s 6.7-liter Power Stroke V-8 diesel or the 6.2-liter gas V-8 that makes 411 hp and 434 lb.-ft. of torque in the F-150 Raptor.

Finally, even though Brian Rathsburg—Marketing manager for the F-Series Super Duty—calls the Super Duty “the latest expression of Built Ford Tough truck luxury,” with “a distinct appearance and a long list of features to deliver a superior experience,” he also assures customers that “it has all of the capability F-Series trucks are famous for.”
