    2002 Ford Escape - XLT Choice (400A) 4x4

    Pros: Duratec V6 powerplant

Cons: Inability to install 7 pin trailer plug, No place to mount plug bracket with factory hitch installed.

    Advice: Ignore any negative comments

Traded in Dodge B1500 short wheel base van with V6 engine. What a dog to drive...couldn't get out of it's own way. Tried an Xterra with V6, fell way below expectations of V6 powerplant. Finally test drove the Esacpe. First thing I learned was to lay off the gas pedal. This thing just wants to go and go. Picked up Friday evening and put 600 miles on it before Monday morning. My wife and I just like to drive it. Handles like a dream with lots of power to spare. I can't wait to try towing the pop-up camper.

    2002 Ford Escape - XLT Choice (400A) 4x4

Pros: The V-6 - If it had wings, it would fly!!!!!

Cons: Gas Guzzler. Averaging about 15 mpg.

Advice: Check rental car lots for 2001's. Got mine that way & saved a bundle.

Went to the car lot just to 'kick the tires' and see what I liked......Liked it so much, I drove it home. Has a well composed ride, not stiff or choppy. Very comfortable for highway driving. Road and wind noise were not excessive as I had read might be. Feels as big and roomy as the Explorer, but still fits in my garage!!! Good front seat cup holders and lots of storage space in center console.

    2002 Ford Escape - XLT Choice (400A) 4x4

Pros: Without a doubt - the looks!

Cons: Small fuel tank - unless you have frequent flyer miles at Shell

Advice: Consider the Hybrid coming out in 2003, I wish I would have waited

It was an educated decision to buy this car. It has the looks, power, and comfort of any other SUV. The CRV and RAV4 are no comparison (those are chic cars on helium.) Only downfalls in my 12,000 miles so far: wind noise and small gas tank. C'mon Ford, help us out - 300 miles on a tank of fuel! Wind noise is no match for the Mach stereo though. Everything else is excellent. Much better looks than the Mazda sister car too. Pulls my camper, family, and cargo easily. Would recommend to anyone looking to upgrade from a car as a first-time SUV owner. Stay away from the XLS; don't cheap out; it's not worth it.
