Getting firsthand information from an actual car owner is one sure way to get an idea of car performance once it leaves the lot. Autobytel features real consumer reviews that give the unbiased experience of a car.
Pros: The appearance
Cons: The distance between the driver's seat and the steering wheel is not enough.
Advice: Dont expect any large discounts in purchasing.I purchased the SUV for my wife. After test driving several SUV's, and a lot of convincing, she finally gave in and agreed with me to purchase the Ford Escape SUV. The handling I feel was excellent. With the ever ending increases in gas prices, we made the best decision in purchasing the Escape Hybrid. The change from gas to electric and back to gas felt very smooth and exciting to drive. The car looks great and the performance of the 4 cylinder is better than what I expected, (if you expect it to perform like of 6 cylinder then you should buy a 6 cylinder, you get what you buy).
Pros: Tinted windows and power door locks - I was driving a base model pickup for 10+ yrs.
Cons: Center console as I prefer bench seats.
Advice: Shop around! You can save thousands by finding the right dealer.I've had my 2006 Escape Hybrid since the beginning of July. So far, I love it. There is no problem with the pick up or handling, it is large enough to carry what I need, but small enough to easily find curb parking. The gas mileage is also great for an SUV; with a mix of city and highway driving I consistently get more than 30 mpg. It is important to drive for the hybrid technology to increase efficiency, but even if I decide to ignore efficiency, I still average around 28-29 mpg. Also, temperature extremes will limit the mpg. It is a great choice if you want the decreased emissions without compromise of safety or elevated driver's view.
Pros: CVT and Toyota Hybrid system.
Cons: the name Ford.
Advice: Watch out for uneducated reviews on hybrids. This drove similar to my 2002 Prius. Same drive train, but AWD. If you need an AWD car and want efficiency this is certainly a good prospect. Consumers Reports wrongly reported it to be the same as the normal Escape when it comes to NTHSA rollover ratings. They lumped it in with the normal Escape. This has a lower center of gravity due to the battery pack in the rear. Unfortunately I did not know that and canceled my order for one. MISTAKE on my part. I would get one now though since I now know Consumers reports is not accurate.
Pros: nice ride
Advice: not a tire burnergreat vehicle!!
