2011 Ford Edge Boosts MPG, Power and Features
A mid-cycle refresh delivers a new 2011 Ford Edge that is more refined and better equipped than ever before. Improvements under the hood also quell previous complaints that the Edge was sluggish and unresponsive. Keep reading to learn what's new on the 2011 Ford Edge and review specs, features and mpg.
What's New - 2011 Ford Edge
A lot has changed on the 2011 Edge. On the outside, the vehicle receives numerous styling tweaks to deliver a more elegant and modern persona. Step inside the cabin and you'll be greeted with a completely redesigned interior that serves up additional quality, comfort and convenience when compared to last year. Enhanced soundproofing reduces exterior road noise and MyFord Touch entertainment is now available.
In terms of performance, the 2011 Edge has a revised suspension that helps improve vehicle response. New engine options improve horsepower while maintaining above-average fuel efficiency for the class. A new brake system also helps boost vehicle performance.
2011 Ford Edge Styling
Somewhat ironically, the 2011 Edge has shed a number of the crisp edges and lines that gave the vehicle a boxy look in previous years. The result is a curvaceous, sexy exterior that helps the Edge stand out from the more staid appearances of its competitors. Inside, the push to increase the contemporary appeal of the Ford Edge continues. High-quality architecture blends with high-tech features to create an obvious air of refinement.
Thankfully, the interior cabin is also practical. The expansive interior provides ample comfort and versatility. With the rear seat up, there's plenty of room for a family of five (and 32.2 cubic feet of storage). Fold the rear seat to create a flat-load floor (an optional feature), and owners gain access to a full 68.9 cubic feet of storage space - a figure that is competitive for the class. For added benefit, the front passenger seat also folds flat on select trims.

2011 Ford Edge Performance
The base engine for the 2011 Edge is the same 3.5-liter V-6 found on the 2010 model. However, engine tweaks boost performance to 285 horsepower. For those looking for a sportier SUV, the Edge Sport model comes equipped with a new 3.7-liter V-6 engine that glides along with 305 horsepower. A SelectShift automatic transmission is available on upper trims, and allows for drivers to switch between manual and automatic shifting.
Later in the year, Ford promises to introduce a 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine. This engine will be tuned to improve the vehicle's fuel efficiency by an estimated 30 percent. EPA estimates suggest the base Ford Edge earns 18 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway (a 1-mpg improvement in highway miles over last year). Do some quick math on the combined 21- mpg offered by the base Edge, and you can infer an eventual mileage of 27 mpg combined for the EcoBoost engine.
