Ranging from the Harpa Reykjavik Concert Hall in Iceland (Best Performance Space) to the Espa at Istanbul Edition in Turkey (Best Spa), the world’s top travel destinations, buildings and products were recently honored in Travel + Leisure magazine’s annual design issue. And the only car selected by the publication’s panel of internationally renowned design experts? It was the 2012 FIAT 500.
“The Design Awards jury applauded the Fiat 500 for its effortless combination of compact practicality with a real sense of style, speed, and fun,” said Luke Barr, news director of Travel + Leisure.
In fact, that same mix of attributes is on display in all five 500 models on sale this year, including:
• Fiat 500—Delivering Italian flair, nimble handling and a peppy 1.4-liter engine that relies on Fiat’s patented MultiAir technology for an optimum blend of performance and efficiency.
• Fiat 500 Cabriolet—Providing an open-air driving experience via a custom-designed power-operated cloth top that can be retracted into a number of different positions.
• Fiat 500 by Gucci—Showcasing style upgrades from one of Italy’s premier fashion houses on both the hard-top and convertible 500; drivers can expect the Gucci models to appear at dealerships in December.
• Fiat 500 Abarth—Offering track-ready performance, as well as a complimentary day at the track, for drivers who want big driving thrills in a small package.
“We are extremely honored to win the ‘Best Car’ Design Award title from Travel + Leisure – as the 2012 Fiat 500 offers a unique combination of Italian design, driving fun and efficiency at an unbeatable value,” said Tim Kuniskis, head of FIAT Brand North America. “In addition, our open-air Fiat 500 Cabrio, the exclusive 500 and Fiat 500c by Gucci models and the high-performance Fiat 500 Abarth provide drivers with the best of Italian style and driving excitement.”
