2014 Dodge Journey Summary

Changes for the 2014 Dodge Journey:

For the 2014 model year, Dodge replaces the Crew trim level with a new Limited model. This year, the SXT can be fitted with navigation, a rear-seat entertainment system, and leather seats. Three new colors are also offered for the 2014 Dodge Journey, including Black, Granite Crystal Metallic, and Redline Red 2 Pearl Coat.

Model Lineup:

Five versions of the 2014 Dodge Journey are for sale. The most affordable model is called the American Value Package, while the most expensive model is the Journey R/T. In between, Dodge dealers stock the SE, SXT, and Limited models.

Choosing the SE model adds dark tinted rear glass, LED taillights, and access to a longer list of optional equipment than is offered for the American Value Package model. The Journey SXT gains fog lights, aluminum wheels, floor mats, satellite radio, a cargo cover and net, and slightly revised styling.

The new Journey Limited is equipped with leather seats, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, dual-zone automatic climate control, a Uconnect 8.4 color touchscreen infotainment system, a universal garage door opener, remote engine starting, and a long list of interior and exterior improvements, including a fold-flat front passenger’s seat with in-cushion storage and a set of 19-inch aluminum wheels.

The R/T has sport-tuned suspension and steering, a premium sound system, and a monochromatic exterior appearance with Satin Carbon wheels.

Engines and Transmissions:

A 173-horsepower, 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine is standard for all Journey models except for the Limited and R/T models, which have a 283-horsepower, 3.6-liter V-6 engine. The 4-cylinder engine is pared exclusively with a 4-speed automatic and front-wheel drive. The V-6, an option for the SXT model, gets a 6-speed automatic and a choice between front-wheel and all-wheel drive.

Fuel Economy Ratings:

According to the EPA, the Journey’s 4-cylinder engine returns 21 mpg in combined driving. The far more powerful V-6 engine is rated to get 19 mpg with front-wheel drive or AWD.

Safety Ratings:

In National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) crash tests, the Journey receives an overall rating of 4 stars. Notably, the SUV scores 4 stars or better in all of the NHTSA’s individual assessments. While the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has not officially rated the 2014 Journey as this summary is written, last year the SUV received the best rating of “Good” in all measured assessments. The IIHS has not subjected the Journey to its tough new small overlap frontal impact crash test as this is written.

Technology Highlights:

Bluetooth connectivity is optional on the Journey American Value Package, SE, and SXT models, while the SXT can be upgraded with the Uconnect 8.4 touchscreen infotainment system that comes standard on the Limited and R/T models. Additional upgrades, depending on the trim level selected, include Uconnect Web service, a rear-seat DVD entertainment system, a 115-volt power outlet, a navigation system, a heated steering wheel, a reversing camera, and rear parking assist sensors. The Journey can even be outfitted with a portable flashlight.
