Cons: Dodge's Rear View Mirror Night Setting (doesn't dim lights any when on)
Advice: R/T not made anymore but worth looking for even used.I owned a 1999 Intrepid ES for 80,000 miles till an accident made me want to sell it (not my fault, car took front end collision at 45 mph with only minor body damage & mechanicals -- never the same after Dodge shop fixed though). Bought R/T cause of great ES experience. Excellent sound system and engine power. Leave quite a few cars in the dust. If you order from the factory, get everything they offer. It is worth it. Love Autostick (tm). I'll agree the other one I read on the 2002 R/T was a lemon but all cars get a lemon (manufacturing thousands of parts and having them work together don't always work). I have had nothing but problem free days with 1995 Ram (170,000 miles), 1999 Intrepid ES (80,000 miles) and now 2002 Intrepid R/T (50,000 miles).
Cons: transmission problems
Advice: transmission is the weakest linkGreat handling, sure footed in all kinds of weather, 3.3l engine has had no problems in 184k mi, except water pump ($28.00), but I'm on transmission #3.
Cons: Door Handles
Advice: Make sure you buy from a reputable dealer.Car handles very well for its size. Gas mileage is good with good highway passing power. If you think the road noise is bad in the intrepid, the impala is worse. Having issues with the suspension which is currently trying to be worked out at the dealer. Seats are very comfortable. The best I have sat in yet. Good value for your money.
Pros: looks great.
Cons: extra high rear deck
Advice: Find adealer you trust and get an Intrepid!I bought this car in Feb.'03, trading a '97 Avenger because I wanted a newer, 4dr. I find it has great looks, performance, and comfort. Fit and finish throughout is great. My car had 13,000 miles at purchase. It has very quiet ride--important when there is lot of open country and frequent long drives (We live in central NE) Seating is very comfortable, with lots of adjustments available. The v6 is pwerful, responsive, and unobtrusive. I love it!
Cons: Road Noise
Advice: more insulation or undercoating??I own a 2002 intrepid, I love the comfort in it, but hard to stand the road noise. have to turn the radio way up to hear it. only fromt speakers are in the doors, hard to overcome the road noise, espacialy on rough pavement.
Cons: Sound System
Advice: If the radio isn't important to you then its a nice car.Car handles nicely. I had previously owned a 1995 Intrepid ES which is why I decided to purchase a new one. The ride feels a little thin. I guess because they used more aluminium in this car than the '95. The seats aren't as firm as the '95 either but still comfortable. The radio is terrible. Does not even compare to the '95, 7 speaker system. This is my main complaint. I believe its the speakers they chose to use. They are a cheaper speaker, I checked. So now I'm deciding wheather to replace the whole system or just the speakers!
Cons: the problems
Advice: DON'T buy the Intrepid R/TI ordered a 2002 Intrepid R/T in February 2002. I picked up my car in April 2002. At approx. 2300 miles the check engine light came on. After returning to the dealer many times this is still not fixed. We, (the mechanics) believe that it is the sending unit causing the light to come on. But Chrysler wont let them change that because the 'computer' doesnt say that its bad. So far I have had three coils replaced, 3 spark plugs, the timing was reset twice. It idles very rough, wether it is a cold engine or a warm engine. And because of it, the gas miliage suffers. I go from approx. 25 mpg to 21 mpg when the timing is off. According to the mechanics, it is something in the intake. Therefore NOW they are rebuilding the heads on the manifold. When the manifold was taken off, oil dripped out from everywhere. This has been 7 trips to the dealer for this car to be fixed. And although I believe that the heads getting rebuilt are something all together different from the check engine light coming on. So much for the Lemon Law In Pennsylvania. Chrysler refuses to build me another car. I currently have approx. 6200 miles on this car. Actually I believe that I got a 'lemon'. And there is no one out there to help me!
