I had a Ford Taurus before, but a corporate decision was made to go with the Caliber. I am extremely disappointed with the overall performance of this vehicle. Also, as far as I am concerned, the gas mileage has been mis-represented. The engine is always reving so high and it burns so much fuel! I have had cars with bigger engines that got better gas mileage and performed better, because they did not have to work so hard. I can't use my cell phone on speaker when driving on the highway because of the excessive road noise. I do not understand why Dodge would put 18' wheels with low profile touring tires on an AWD vehicle. I drove in only a few inches of snow and the car was all over the road! Other vehicles were constantly passing me.

Advice: Similar cars also have bad blindspots. So Caliber is still a viable purchaseI bought the SE Caliber w/2liter CVT & A/C for the CVT & $14,000. Always a manual shifter before, I adore the CVT for its v. smooth magic carpet ride. I'm a featherfooter piloting my last two econo cars to highs of 50+MPG. The Caliber on 4000' foot mountain passes has given 32.7MPG & intown & country road MPG of 27.8MPG which makes me fairly happy. Hope long drives on flatter terrain may give higher MPG. However, I think the Caliber could be more space efficient. The wasted space in the console instrument area could be shortened up & more foot room given for rear seat passengers. Also, the rear of the car could have more space efficiency to shorten & lighten the car(for better MPG?) without losing much storage space at all. Rear passengers would have a bit more headroom if the car would not have been tapered towards the rear. Also, this lack of taper would have made for a bigger rear window. A bigger rear window wiper could have been fitted to clear more glass. Also, the small rear windows should have been eliminated along with the posts. The remaining rear windows should have been enlarged both in width & breadth to dramatically reduce the blind spots. Also the overwide front posts easily hide cars & create other unnecessary blindspots. These are major tragedies of style over considerations of safety.

Advice: A Buick Roadmaster it is notI have a 2003 Stratus R/T Sedan with the 2.7L V6 with the autostick automatic transmission and I love it. The car handles like my old 98 Z28 and it came standard with 17 inch wheels, much nicer looking than the 16's that came on my Z. As for as the ride quality, yes it's a firm ride (sports car like)but not a cheap or jittery ride. It does not feel like a poorly built vehicle, for instance the doors close with a nice tight feel without using much force it makes a nice air tight seal. As for looks and power the car with make the front tires screech if you autostick it into second, cool! Best of all, I drive my car aggressively and it responds in a very perdictable positive manner, again it feels like the car was built very well. I love mine and I would recommend it for a person who still has hotrod attitude and occasionally requires a car seat, and oh yeah needs to get 28 MPG.

Advice: Just shop around. I really would recommend getting all the perks if you can manage it, the sunroof/leather/power everything is really nice and doesn't spike the price too badly!I love this car!! I can fit anything easily in the back, and the CVT transmission (which I was worried about) is really nice and I don't think I'll be going back to a regular automatic anytime soon! Also, fuel economy is great for this 172 hp AWD R/T....I range from 28-29 on the highway to and from work, and around 26 around town!

Advice: Rent one from a rental company for a few days and then decide.I bought this car back in April of 2006. I love the appearence of the car. The inside of the of the car has ALOT of room and it very comfortable to ride in. The CVT is an adjustment and at first I thought there was something wrong with the car. It sounded like the engine is winding up. I had a problem with it in the 1st 500 miles. I went to backup one day and it wouldn't leave park...so they had to tow it to the nearest dealer. Also, there is alot of road noise at high speeds. I have somethng flapping in the right front quater panel that drive me nuts. I have taken it in and they havent fixed it yet. Overall I am happy expect I was hoping for better gas mileage. I am only getting about 325 miles on a tank. If you asked me if I would buy this car again I would have to say NO. I would prefer to get better mileage and less high speed noise but I do love the styling of car.

Advice: Don't buy itI have owned this car for about a year and I absolutely hate it. It is the worst car I have ever owned. My transmission jars when you put it in gear and they told me all Stratus' do this. Engine is loud. Value drops way down.
