Cons: the engine
Advice: Don't know the reliability of this carI bought a 2007 Dodge Caliber. It had 20, 450 miles on it and was still covered by warranty. I haven't had the car for a month and it's been in the shop twice and is about to go in again. First, the brakes made a crunching sound within the first week. Second, the engine started to sound like there were parakeets living in it. I brought the car to the dealer where I bought it and they brought it to the Dodge dealership and after having the car for four days, they said that it's normal for the engine to chirp. What? Now, I finally get my car home after not driving it for four days. Lock it like I always do and when I go to get in it later, the alarm would not stop going off. If I tried to start the car, if I tried to open the doors, it would go into panic mode. I gave up my 1987 Toyota Celica that ran perfectly for the Dodge Caliber. How is it that a car from 1987 runs better than a 2007? What's wrong with this picture?
Pros: the looks
Advice: buy it new; don't let your teenagers drive your carI bought this car new. I've had it now for three years and it was running great until my 17 year old got a hold of it and has been using it for awhile. I never had to do any maintenance on it, yet.
Pros: Good gas milage, heated seating
Cons: The HUGE blind spots at the rear of the car
Advice: For the price, definitely load up on the options, well worth it!!At first I was leery/concerned of the HUGE blind spots... But I gave the Caliber a 3 day test period (bro-n-law is a dealer, let me take it for the w/e), and I fell in love. I was impressed with the handling, tightness, and smooth ride it produced. With hubby, myself, and our 2 children in the car, we didn't feel 'cramped', and all felt very comfortable. Let alone the wonderful gas milage! Considering I was coming from a 02 Jeep Grand Cherokee, this is an excellent choice when one is buying for fuel economy and comfort.
Cons: not much I dont like..
Advice: this car has many many options, make sure you get what you want (ie. floor mats)Ok....The 2 year lease on my 05 Nissan Titan LE crew crab was up, so I decided NO MORE $40k vehicles that suck gas! Being a truck driver for a company that is Chrylsers No 1 truck load carrier, I decided to go back to a chrysler vehicle. For my job, I haul the wiring harnesses to the Belvidere assembly plant where the caliber, patriot, and compass are assembled. I initally went to look at and purchase a Nitro; but after driving it and an R/T AWD Caliber, I fell in love with the Caliber! This is a great little car that gets alot of looks! especially with the factory 18' chome wheels. I have just over 1k miles on it, and am averaging 28 mpg (which is better than the 10mpg my titan got) I personally never thought I would get another car, because I hate anything but 4wd in the midwestern snow. We had one good snow fall after I got the car, and the AWD handled exceptionally! Word of advice: there are so many options for these cars and you need to be very careful to make sure you get everything you want. My car was fully loaded with everything including leather interier, yet it didnt come with floor mats (mats are an option) I did get them as an add on for $35. I see alot of 'not so good' reviews on the caliber and I think it boils down to some people just want a BMW type driving experience for $20k or under which is not realistic or fair to this little gem! Fuel economy and high performance are not synonymus with eachother! If you want 'balls out' performance, wait til mid year for the SRT/4 version which will boast 300 mph. This in an innovtative little car that I am very happy I purchased. I will say the CVT transmission was awkward at first, but I am use to it now! You become so prone to hearing an engine rev higher in RPM to shift, and you dont get that with the CVT. And the top of the line stero ROCKS!
Cons: no moonroof
Advice: Buy it guys great little car.Great start with full car. Had alot of power for a 4 cyl. appearance is unique. I fully recomend to buy.Test drive and you'll see.
Pros: Sexy Car
Cons: Poor Handling
Advice: Forget itI fell in love with this car instantly, then after about 20,000 miles the front end started feeling funny… Do not buy this car unless you drive like a grandma, it can't handle it! Also NEVER drive it in the rain, there is no control in the rain at all.
Advice: NOT FOR PEOPLE WHO LIKE PERFORMANCE BUT LIKE THERE BANK ACCOUNTGAS MILEAGE IS GREAT, CVT TRANSMISSION IS TUNED PERFECTLY FOR POWER ITS LIKE DRIVING ON A CLOUD. VERY GOOD VALUE. CANT WAIT FOR THE SRT VERSION
