The 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 Hits the Streets Running

Retro Design
Dodge did an amazing job of carrying the lines of the original Challenger into its modern-day muscle car. From every angle, the lines and nuances of the 1970s Challenger demand attention from your eye, especially in the rear haunches. The large 20-inch wheels and tires on the SRT8 really accent the aggressiveness of the Hemi-powered Challenger.

Well bolstered race-inspired leather seats hold you tight under hard acceleration and in tight turns while behind the wheel of the 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8. Dodge claims seating for five, but if you want to be comfortable on a long ride, you'd better be the first to call shotgun.

Under the hood of Dodge’s menacing '08 Challenger SRT8 lies a 425-horsepower 6.1-liter Hemi V-8 distributing 420 lb.-ft. of torque to the rear tires by way of a five-speed automatic with manual shift control. Later in production, the Challenger will get a six-speed manual with a pistol-grip shifter. Zero-60 claims are under five seconds with quarter-mile times in the low thirteens. Top speed is listed at 170 mph.

Dodge carried the look of the original Challenger to front end as well, incorporating original grille and headlight treatments into the 2008 Dodge Challenger. The grille of the SRT8 model also sports the SRT badge as an icon to those eyeballing you in their rearview mirrors.

Filling the wheelwells of the 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 are 245/45ZR-20 tires up front and 255/45ZR-20s at the rear. Twenty-inch 5-spoke rims reveal glimpses of the 4-piston Brembo brakes that reside behind them.

From the body width taillights to the matte-black plastic duck-tail spoiler, the 2008 Dodge Challenger brings retro looks to the future. There is no mistaking the 2008 Challenger SRT8 for any other car from behind, if the styling isn’t obvious, the badging is.

Page 8Modernized Retro Interior
"Old school flair with a modern twist" best describes the interior of the 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8. Designers walked the fine line between yesteryear and today with the design of the dash and instruments. The speedo and tachometer get separate spaces in the cluster as do the temperature and fuel gauges.
