Searching for a sporty-looking car that's affordable, but not a hatchback?  You're in luck, because there are quite a few affordable coupes out there waiting to make your acquaintance.  Driving a coupe lets others know that you're willing to sacrifice some practicality for style, but it can also be a nice alternative to the cookie-cutter sedans and useful, but not all that exciting crop of hatchbacks that typically crowd the entry-level.  For 2014, you also get the chance to check out some larger coupe options that many people might not have been aware can be had for a reasonable amount of money

Let's take a quick look at 10 affordable coupes available for 2014.

10 Affordable Coupes for 2014 - 01 - 2014 Hyundai Elantra Coupe - MSRP $19,600

The 2014 Hyundai Elantra Coupe takes everything we like about the Elantra sedan - a top-notch interior, inexpensive pricing, long list of available features, and extroverted styling - and shrinks it down to a compact two-door.  If you want to pay a bit extra, you can load the Elantra Coupe with leather seats, navigation, a sunroof, and more via the Technology package.  All Hyundai Elantra Coupe models come with a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine that produces 173 horsepower and 154 lb-ft of torque.  Fuel mileage for the Coupe is listed at 23-mpg around town and 34-mpg highway, and the only transmission option for the vehicle is a six-speed automatic.

10 Affordable Coupes for 2014 - 02 - 2014 Honda Civic Coupe - MSRP $18,190

Much like the Hyundai, the 2014 Honda Civic Coupe aims to provide style relief for entry-level compact car shoppers seeking a break from the norm.  The Honda Civic Coupe isn't nearly as fashion-focused as the Elantra but it does offer clean lines and a respectable amount of backseat room.  The Civic Coupe's most affordable drivetrain is its standard, 143 horsepower 1.8-liter four-cylinder unit.  Also capable of generating 129 lb-ft of torque, this mill can be yoked to either a five-speed manual gearbox or a continuously-variable automatic.  Fuel economy for the Civic Coupe shows as 30-mpg in city driving and 39-mpg on the highway.

10 Affordable Coupes for 2014 - 03 - 2014 Ford Mustang - MSRP $22,510

The base model 2014 Ford Mustang has all of the looks and swagger of the eight-cylinder GT but it comes with a much more affordable window sticker.  Even better is the fact that its six-cylinder engine packs a respectable wallop all on its own, pulling 305 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque from 3.7-liters of displacement.  Match this with either the Ford Mustang's standard six-speed manual or optional six-speed automatic transmission and you've got a recipe for fun, along with impressive fuel mileage of 19-mpg city and 31-mpg highway.

10 Affordable Coupes for 2014 - 04 - 2014 Kia Forte Koup - MSRP $18,600

The 2014 Kia Forte Koup is the creatively-named two-door edition of the affordable Forte sedan.  The Kia Forte Koup - like it's Hyundai Elantra Coupe platform-mate - shines when it comes to providing a higher than expected level of standard equipment, and it also features a 10 year warranty, which is almost unheard of in the industry.  The Forte Koup's large trunk and usable back seat makes it a good daily driver option, and Kia offers a pair of engine choices to go with the car: a 173 horsepower, 2.0-liter four-cylinder, and a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that can be relied on to produce 201 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque.  Transmission options include a six-speed manual and a six-speed automatic, and fuel mileage for the 2.0-liter Koup checks in at 25-mpg city and 34-mpg on the highway.

10 Affordable Coupes for 2014 - 05 - 2014 Scion tC - MSRP $19,965

The 2014 Scion tC is aimed at those who don't want to haggle when they get to the dealership.  The Scion tC is offered in a single model that bundles together all available equipment, including Bluetooth connectivity, a touchscreen audio interface, a sunroof, and power windows and door locks.  Of course, you can also avail yourself of Scion's extensive accessories catalog, but there's no budging on the coupe's base price.  Its engine remains the same, too, regardless of how much your spend: a 179 horsepower, 2.5-liter four-cylinder that also produces 173 lb-ft of torque.  You can select either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission with the tC, and fuel mileage for both shows as 23-mpg in stop and go driving and 31-mpg on the highway.

10 Affordable Coupes for 2014 - 06 - 2014 Chevrolet Camaro - MSRP $23,555

The 2014 Chevrolet Camaro, like the Mustang, has a surprise for buyers who might not be able to justify blowing a lot of cash on the eight-cylinder model.  The non-SS Chevrolet Camaro's 3.6-liter V-6 is capable of generating 323 horsepower and 278 lb-ft of torque on its way to returning fuel mileage of 17-mpg in city driving and 28-mpg on the highway.  A six-speed automatic transmission is included free of charge, but you can also get a six-speed automatic for not much more money.  All versions of the Camaro come with Bluetooth connectivity, the OnStar telematics system, air conditioning, and cruise control.

10 Affordable Coupes for 2014 - 07 - 2014 Hyundai Genesis Coupe - MSRP $26,350

The 2014 Hyundai Genesis Coupe might be more expensive than the Mustang or the Camaro, but it's essentially the Korean answer to each of those entry-level sports coupes.  The sleek-looking Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2.0T is the bargain of the family, packing a 274 horsepower, 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 275 lb-ft of torque.  Fuel economy for the turbo Genesis Coupe comes in at 19-mpg city and 27-mpg highway when its six-speed manual transmission is in place, with a slightly lower around-town number associated with the available eight-speed automatic (although the latter does feature steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters).

10 Affordable Coupes for 2014 - 08 - 2014 Dodge Challenger - MSRP $26,495

The 2014 Dodge Challenger is the most retro of the three Detroit-based affordable coupes on the market, and it's also the biggest.  This means that the Dodge Challenger offers near-full-size passenger capacity inside its generous cabin, along with a huge trunk.  Powering the base Challenger is a 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 that offers 305 horsepower and 268 lb-ft of torque, matched with a five-speed automatic transmission.  Fuel economy figures for the Dodge coupe aren't exactly stellar - 18-mpg city and 27-mpg highway - but with a refresh on the way for 2015 you can most likely get a good deal on current model year Challenger inventory as it gets cleared out this summer.

10 Affordable Coupes for 2014 - 09 - 2014 Scion FR-S - MSRP $25,455

The 2014 Scion FR-S is one of the most traditional sports cars on this list of affordable coupes, featuring a well-balanced, lightweight chassis, a rear-wheel drive layout, and a plucky, but not overpowering four-cylinder motor.  The Scion FR-S offers a 2.0-liter engine that generates 200 horsepower and 151 lb-ft of torque and it comes with the option of either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission.  No-haggle pricing is standard with the FR-S - like the tC - and fuel economy for the compact coupe is listed as 25-mpg city and 34-mpg highway.

10 Affordable Coupes for 2014 - 10 - 2014 Honda Accord Coupe - MSRP $23,625

The 2014 Honda Accord Coupe is that most unusual of affordable two-door options: a mid-size, family-oriented commuter car.  The conservatively-styled Honda Accord Coupe is one of the most comfortable and spacious cars on our list, and despite its day-to-day leanings it's also above average when it comes to handling.  The Accord Coupe starts out with a frugal 185 horsepower, 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that returns fuel mileage of 29-mpg city and 36-mpg highway, but there's the additional option of a more robust 3.5-liter V-6 that is good for 278 horsepower and 252 lb-ft of torque.  Transmission choices for the former include a six-speed manual and a continuously-variable automatic, while the latter swaps a conventional six-speed autobox for the CVT.
