Volvo’s attempt to simplify the appearance and operation of the S80’s myriad features is partly successful. Commonly accessed controls are easy to find and use, but deeper functions are hard to find in the tightly grouped jumble of buttons in the middle of the central control panel, and the menu system is both confusing and aggravating at times. Order the optional navigation system, and watch it rise like an afterthought from the middle of the center dash speaker, operated using a remote control or buttons on the back of the steering wheel.
