Paula Cole sings for her Mercury Montego  by Holly Reich

Call it the soundtrack of a vehicle onslaught. Mercury, Ford’s erstwhile stepping stone nameplate between Ford and Lincoln, is primed and ready to launch a series of new vehicle over the next two years.

They’ll do it with the inspiration of Paula Cole playing behind them, as they unveiled a new ad campaign featuring a Cole song written specifically for Mercury. Cole, who created the song along with producer Don Waz, wrote I don’t want to wait, the theme for Dawson’s Creek, and had a string of hits in the 90s with such songs as Where have all the Cowboys gone? Waz has worked with an eclectic array of artists ranging from The Rolling Stones, to Bob Dylan, Ziggy Marley and Hootie and The Blowfish, Entitled “It’s my life”, the song will play as background for a series of humorous TV spots and on the Mercury website for the new Mariner and Montego vehicles. According to Cole, it’s a song that she had on her mind for about 12 years. “It felt like it was divined,” she noted at a recent event where the duo performed in front of a handful of people. After the event, Cole posed with a picture of her first car, the 1968 Mercury Marquis.

If, indeed, the song was divined, Mercury hopes that sort of heavenly inspiration spells good tidings for the Montego and Mariner.
