Favorite feature: |
Is this lazy or what? The cruise control works flawlessly. Speed stays the same with little or no speed variance. |
Least favorite feature: |
CD player performance. Little grip considering the big picture on just what is really important in buying a car. |
Advice to buyer: |
Be sure the paint is good on the car at time of delivery and be sure to check to see if the cd player plays your compact discs the way the producer intended. |
Detailed review: |
Driving the focus is much like driving a hybrid Japanese/European small sedan. The standard 4 cylinder is a Mazda power plant and the underpinnings from Ford Europe. The car handles and accelerates well. The limitations of the car are what's expected in the class of vehicle.
I really like the handling and ride of the chassis and smoothness of the engine. This car drives and handles as well as more expensive vehicles.
The fit and finish are not as good as I had hoped. My rear spoiler (after much adjusting) still isn't equally flush end to end as the left end is higher than the right. The paint is already showing signs of fatigue (bought the car in July of '05 and it is now January of '06.) on the hood. This is either bad paint or possibly when the detailing was done prior to delivery the detail person put too much pressure on the paint and burned it. This is yet to be resolved by the dealer, Country Ford in Southaven, MS.
The 6 disc changer doesn't play compact disc as recorded. Many of my cd's have no space between songs and the disc player forces a space between the tracks even when to do so interrupts the original recording mix. The cd changer has been replaced twice and is in the shop today to have another player put in. I addressed this issue with Crossroads Ford in Memphis, TN and I am unaware if they are going to do anything else except to put another player in the car. This is apparently a design flaw in the optical reader of the 6 disc changer.
The car overall is a great buy. My Ford Focus SES with all the trimmings except Anti-lock brakes, side curtain airbags and perimeter alarm cost a mere $13,500. |
