I approached the Vibe with suspicion. Having driven a 300 hp Chevy Caprice for the last 7 years gave pause. This was a small car by comparison, and I weigh 360 lbs. In this car I can get behind the wheel when the seat is postioned for my much shorter wife. The Vibe is deceiving. It has plenty of leg room, loads of head room, and an upright seating position that gives you an SUV feel. Even though this is a small car, it has more usable space than my much larger Caprice. Yesterday I carried 8 foot lumber with no trouble inside the car. I experienced some trouble mastering the washer/wiper controls, once squirting a car wash attendant with washer fluid while attempting to turn off the wipers. After that I spent some time to familiarize myself to them. The moon and tunes package is phenomenal, the sound system is more powerful than the motor. I realize now that my wife and I were not the target for the Vibe. I am 47 and definitely not the young crowd, we just wanted a station wagon. We drove a Taurus and I smacked my head getting into it, no good. Neither of us wanted a van, but we were drawn to the Vibe. It is an outstanding vehicle. Several people have come up to us and asked to look at the car. This is something I have never experienced before. It has looks, utility, comfort and economy, what a great little car! |
