I have driven both the 4.4 and the 3.0. The X5 feels more like a BMW than a truck. The interior is very spacious and the steering is very heavy in parking maneuvers, making the X feel truck like at first. But when you take it out on the back roads, it comes alive. The 3.0 w/o sport suspension is a little bouncy and the 4.4 with it is a little stiff. Maybe the 3.0 with sport suspension would give the best compromise. I have owned a BMW 535i (best car I ever owned and 2 Toyota 4-Runners (great quality, trucky ride). I am now reluctant to go back to a the low driver's position and two wheel drive. The X5 has it all. One criticism - the small storage area behind the rear seat and the high tail-gate height is going to be tough on my two labs. |
