Advice to buyer: |
The hard decision is whether to spring for the more expensive T-6 engine. Give that careful thought. Go for the upgraded security system with shatter proof side glass and the top end sound system. |
Detailed review: |
The Volvo is the best value in it's price range, high 30's to low 40's. It compares favorably with higher priced cars in looks and performance. The twin turbo T-6 is a screamer. The normally aspirated 2.9L is quick and more power than most of us need. The styling is excellent and much more attractive than Acura and other cars I considered. The interior is extremely comfortable, supportive on quick manuevers and generally well designed. The 4CD Bose sound system is a delight.
I have two rear wheel drive cars now, but I like the S80 front wheel drive traction with traction control on slick pavement. And the place no one touches the S80 is in safety -- the side curtain airbag system and whiplash protection are unique and outstanding. Volvo will have no trouble selling out the limited production available to the U.S. market in 1999! |
