What's New for the 2004 Suzuki Verona? Suzuki expands into the midsize family sedan segment with the 2004 Verona. Three models are offered, each powered by a 155-horsepower inline six-cylinder engine matched to a four-speed automatic transmission: base S, midlevel LX and luxury EX. Prices for the Italdesign-styled Suzuki Verona begin in the mid-16s and top out right at $20,000. The S model includes power windows and locks, cruise control, remote keyless entry, air conditioning, a height-adjustable driver’s seat, CD player and a tilt steering wheel. Midlevel Verona LX models add automatic climate control, alloy wheels and antilock brakes. The 2004 Suzuki Verona EX is loaded with leather upholstery, a power driver’s seat, dual heated front seats, and a power sunroof. Traction control is optional on the EX model. All Suzuki Veronas provide their buyers with one of the best powertrain warranties in the business – seven years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first.
Advantages of the 2004 Suzuki Verona:
- Seven-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty
- Quality interior materials
- Comfortable front seats
- Well-equipped for the price
- Smooth ride
Objections to the 2004 Suzuki Verona: - Engine is noisy and could use more power
- Mushy handling
- No side-impact airbags
Editor's Advice: Suzuki is positioning itself as a value-leader for 2004, and the Verona is the company’s new flagship sedan, intending to battle the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry by offering exceptional feature content wrapped in stylish sheetmetal for a low sticker price. Assembled by GM-Daewoo in South Korea, the 2004 Suzuki Verona comes extremely well equipped for less than $20,000. The Verona is comfortable, offers a smooth ride and is constructed with quality materials. However, the V6 engine is not particularly powerful, barely matching the output of the four-cylinder models sold by competitors. Also, handling is just so-so and side-impact airbags are not available. With so many excellent midsize sedans on the market, we think Suzuki will need to heavily market the Verona to keep it on consumer radar screens.
