 Detailed review:

I ordered a 2002 F150 to replace a '98 of the same model. Both trucks are 5.4 engines, automatic transmissions and 3.55 limited slip rear. The '98 had an excellent ride with very comfortable captain chairs; the ride of the 2002 is stiff with each little bump in the road being transmitted up thru the firm bucket seat.(I have had 4 back operations; the ride of this vehicle is a real problem for me.) The automatic transmission of the 2002 is noisy with a whinning noise that is louder than the radio. It also bangs and clunks when downshifting from 2nd to 1st at 20 mph on a grade. Since this is the truck's second tranmission, the problem appears to be inherent in all the 2002 F150 transmissions. I know of 3 other 2002 F150's that have the same transmission characteristics. On the otherhand, we also bought a 2002 Expedition with the same drivetrain which has one of the smoothest and quietiest transmissions that I have seen. The transmissions of my '98 and my son's '99 F150 do not have the whinning and banging and clunking that the 2002's do. The cloth bucket seats of the F150 are firm and hard to adjust to a comfortable position. The console sets back too far and is difficult to use; especially getting the tray out. The exterior paint, Toredour Red, is very easily scratched down to bare metal. The ride, comfort level, quality of the drivetrain, and paint of the 2002 F150 are significantly inferior to that of the '98 F150 XLT that I had traded in.
