Advice to buyer: |
Save your money on the Redline! Opt for looks, if neccessary, and get the standard model. |
Detailed review: |
Let me start off by stating the obvious: this car is gorgeous! Now, beyond that, it is flawed in many ways. Take away its good looks and you've got a mediocre automobile, at best. For 175hp, it feels a lot more like the Ion's Ecotec 140hp engine in manual transmision. The pickup is decent, to say the least. The biggest drawback is how there is absolutely NO ROOM!! The ride is very uncomfortable. Now, I know that you can't expect roadsters to be chock full of room. But, you can't even put a cup in this baby. I just came back from test driving the Redline model. While the engine is definitely much stronger and the overall vehicle handles better, the turbo seems to sleep for a good 2-3 seconds before kicking in. Not responsive at all. I know that turbos will generally take a few instances to respond, but this is crazy! Sure, at 260hp, it packs a whollop, but you have to wait for it...wait for it...wait...there it is!! Reading up on the pros and cons of turbocharging a 4-cylinder engine, I found more cons than pros. Only the Mazda Speed 6 has been able to pull it off with absolutely no lag in the turbo. Oddly enough, I just purchased a Speed 6 and have been blowing away Acuras, BMWs and Audis left and right. That car is not only gorgeous, but at 285hp (4-cyl. turbo) it mechanically pulled off what the Sky Redline sadly couldn't! |
