I’ve been driving an 07 Cobalt for over 20,000 miles now, and I am quite happy with the car. My overall impression is being in an absolutely rigid container, well insulated from vibration and noise, while a supple suspension maintains secure contact with road. It is a Mercedes type of driving sensation. The engine consumes nearly no oil, and the oil just slightly changes color, between changes. The mid-level seats are comfortable, even for long drives. I suspect that some of the criticism of the seats comes from people who are evaluating the Cobalt as a racer instead of a touring car. I have needed warranty work only once, for a electrical problem. I have full power options and a manual transmission, all for less than seventeen grand. I know the engine, interior, and suspension are not up to the level of premium European or Japanese car costing twice as much, but the Cobalt’s overall driving experience comes remarkably close. And I have compared my Cobalt’s paint job to a new Camry and Matrix, the Cobalt’s is better.
What’s not to like? Rear visibility is poor due to the upswept trunk, trunk access is limited, and heated seats are only available as part of a long list other options.
