Detailed review: |
Having thought about moving up to a 'luxury performance sedan' (LPS) for a couple of years, I drove and walked around and read about Audi, Lexus, Mercedes, BMW. It was confusing. Into this confusion, the M35 burst upon me like an automotive epiphany: 'Wow! No need to even choose or think about it. There is only one LPS.'
Reality: glamorous and comfortable interior with loads of 'cool' Japanese technology. Worst gas mileage of any car in this category. The 'wow' acceleration comes from reaching into the high rpm range to get torque, thus using a lot of fuel. There is not even a sixth (overdrive) gear, so that, during test drives, you can accelerate all the time easily, but the car is straining to do what it does and breaking through to 19 mpg even on long straight 65 mph drives is unlikely. Also, very bumpy, even in 'luxury' (non-sport) model. Does not corner 'on rails' like Audi or BMW. Loud because exhaust system is tuned to provide 'boy racer' sounds, the joy of which wear off quickly.
