Getting firsthand information from an actual car owner is one sure way to get an idea of car performance once it leaves the lot. Autobytel features real consumer reviews that give the unbiased experience of a car.
Pros: retro styling
Cons: rear power window switches on floor console
Advice: great car don't hesitatemine has over 34,000 miles on it and other than oil changes i've had no issues with car. still original brakes and tires.great car
Cons: poor qualty
Advice: do your research before buyingi own a 01 pt cruiser, its a wonderful car untill 70,000 miles, expect to have great power loss and a motor replaced at 79,000 miles, a new motor runs about 3,750 dollars and is hard to find, time and money its just cheaper to buy a whole nother car, its a wonderful car if u do long drives and dont plan to keep it over 100k miles, when car is washed the air bag light comes on and the auto locks keep locking themselfs when they feel like it, been locked out several times.
Pros: Style, inside and out
Cons: The original tires that came with the car.
Advice: Up grade the tires to a good high performance tire.Once you get a good high performance tire on the PT Cruiser the ride is good, very sporty ride. With a good high performance tire the car handles excellent on wet and snowy/icey surfaces.
Pros: The make and color of the car. I have the red car
Cons: The car eats gas too quickly
Advice: Yes buy - the car is overall a good car so far.I would score higher for performance and the overall rating but cannot because This car does not get the gas mileage it claims. I got more mileage from my SUV which went 17 miles a gallon in the city. The car, however is a 4 cylinder, but the car is supposed to have turbo but it does not go as fast as I expected. It seems like I have to a least go 60 miles per hour just to get some decent speed - so that causes gas to even go faster. I am currently not satisfied with the speed or gas mileage of the car. I do like the car overall though.
Pros: The look and the cargo space. The height of the seats. Gas mileage is great.
Cons: Seats are a little uncomfortable. Maintenance too costly. Gas tank is too small!
Advice: Look elsewhere or buy a 2005 or later model, I hear those have the kinks worked out. When I got this car in December of 2003, I loved it! I was sad to part with my 95 T-bird and this was just the car to make me happy again. Then I got married the next December and the problems started up. The brakes started grinding after it had rained (which is frequent in Houston) and eventually they were grinding every single time I stopped. That got fixed, sort of. Then the tires wore out in January of this year ($400) Then this summer the a/c went out! $700 later, it's fixed. Now my OBD light has come on for some exhuast or gas cap-related thing and most websites say, 'it'll just go away after a couple of weeks'. This is by far the most annoying car I've ever been in. I agree that all cars should have cd and cassette players! I also agree with everyone that it's hard to see behind you in it, in fact, my husband ran into a trailer a couple of weeks ago and now there's a dent in the back door and a huge gash in the bumper. I will never own a Chrysler again. I can't afford them! Next stop: 2006 Hyundai Sonata!
Pros: It is a convertible
Cons: The car's handling on wet streets makes one overly cautious.
Advice: Get a bright colorI purchased the car [new] in December '05 during a smow storm. This is a good time to buy a convertible. I have not had the top down yet, but am waiting for a good sunny warm day. The performance is great with good power [I have a blue touring model]. But you should watch it on wet roads. The car can easily get away from you. There is good room for a person like me @ 6 ft 2 and 212 lbs as the driver and the rear passengers have little difficulty getting in and riding in the back seat. I disllike not driving through the car wash, but self wash is good excersize. I dislike persons calling the car as cute. When they ride with me, I show off the power to dispel the cute label. I'd buy this car again. It's a fun car.
Pros: The look; the seat position (you don't sit DOWN or climb up, you just slide in like a barstool); the price
Advice: Good looking, comfortable, plenty of room w/short wheelbase, BUT it's not economical or fast!Having owned an '03 PT (which our son now drives), we were ready to buy again. The '03 was a 5-speed which we loved; the '05 is automatic which is more convenient but with much lower performance. All in all we love the car. BUT... Chrysler has had a few years to work out the 'bugs' on this thing so why, when I'm driving what is essentially a 4 cyl Neon with a different body, is my milage so lousy!?!? I'm LUCKY to hit 20 mph in town driving like an old lady! On the highway I seldom do better than MAYBE 24mph! These days that's ridiculous. Especially when there's a new 'PT Wannabe' by Chevy that's rated at 35 hwy! I do thank heaven I bought last years, though, as the new front end has ruined the entire aggressive look that made the car special. You blew that one, guys!!!!
