Getting firsthand information from an actual car owner is one sure way to get an idea of car performance once it leaves the lot. Autobytel features real consumer reviews that give the unbiased experience of a car.
Pros: H.O. engine performance
Cons: Wish I had the 'vette's bolsters to hold me tight in the turns
Advice: Don't buy the car if you wouldn't want to hear the word cute applied to your ride by ladiesThe car with the High Output engine can really scoot. You might find it hard to believe that I traded a '96 'Vette for it, but my body thanks me every time I climb in or out of it.
Pros: solid feel with engine response
Cons: seats need 6 way electronic adjustment
Advice: Enjoyment may take on the place of existing hobbies. Take the long way to work.Wow! Took my boss to the dealership during lunch to pick up her four year old Cruiser from an oil change - and I test drove the GT with the top down! You won't leave the dealership without one! My Lexus SC 400 is now in the yard with a 'For Sale' sign on it. I just wish my Navigation system could also find a buyer for used cars!
Pros: Looks and ROOM (especially back seat)
Cons: Nothing so far
Advice: If you plan to use the rear seat at all, sit in the PT's. You will be impressedWe want to buy a 'cute', affordable convertible within the next year or so. We pretty much thought it would be a VW New Beetle. But we were invited to a drive comparison by Chrysler. We drove a PT GT automatic, and a base automatic VW. Although to be fair we need to drive a turbo VW, but the difference in comfort and room was amazing. We now are leaning heavily towards a PT GT 5-speed.
Pros: One button and top
Cons: The manual shifter is not as smooth as I'm used to.
Advice: If you don't need neck breaking speedI wanted something fun, tired of the same old thing. I did not want to spend a lot of money! As soon as I seen that I could get a base PT Cruiser convertable for only $19995 I was sprung. the only options I really suggest are floor mats, cruise control, and the sirius sat radio. Other than that the Base has plenty of acceleration to get you down the road and out on the highway without any problems. I love this car, but I wish I knew they were changing the front end of the PT for '06 I might could have waited for that. Besides that I love this car and I have had more heads turn and people wanting to look at my car than ever before.
Pros: How the car looks
Cons: Turning radius
Advice: Buy the GT with the turbo, it's fast.Put the top down and enjoy. What a fun car. Fast, handles well. A little heavy on the gas bill, but worth ever dollar. Turning radius could use some help. When the roof is up, your rear view shrinks considerably. Over all, I'm glad I bought it, I'm having a ball.
Pros: The convertible top!!
Cons: Somewhat difficult to reach the gas pedal for short-legged people
Advice: If you've wanted a convertible without the huge price tagAfter driving mini-vans for many years and nearing retirement, I was ready for a fun vehicle, and this is it!!! I call it my 'happy car' because the minute I or any of my friends get in it, an instant smile spreads across our faces. Crank up the 6-CD changer, and it just doesn't get much better!! I'm loving the power, too! It climbs those NH mountains with no problem. The graphite body and black top make for an elegant look. Every day people stop to admire the vehicle and wish me well. I love it!!!!!
Pros: Top down family fun
Cons: Long doors make tight parking spots a challange (especially with kids in the back)
Advice: have funOK, I've been driving my tan-on-graphite top down PT GT for over a month now and I'm loving it! Put the kids in the back and hit PCH and you have all the makings for a great summer afternoon cruise. I have now had more heads turned and 'thumbs up' comments than I ever received in my '63 MGB. It has better get-up-and-go than my Audi A6 did and for a solid rear axel rides pretty flat. It may not be the best for daily hauls up and down the freeway, but for my 2.5 mile coastal commute it's perfect. I was looking for a 'fun in the sun' vehicle that worked with my family and didn't cost over $40K (ala BMW, Audi, Saab and Volvo). This car fit the bill and then some.
