Worst New Vehicle Ever
Pros: The seats.
Cons: The mileage, engine performance and the turning radius.We are so disappointed in the performance of the engine especially the mileage. We have never gotten close to the EPA rating either in town or on the highway, consistently falling at least 3 mpg lower. We have also encountered gas smells into the cabin from faulty gaskets, rough idling and a corporation that does not care. We went to the dealership four times and filed consumer complaints with Chrysler and only received minimal interest. We will never buy another Chrysler product and have told all of our friends about how disappointed we were.

Pros: Turbo performance & retro appearance
Cons: CAN bus electronics intro'd in '06 (not in my '05)I've owned cars such as Oldsmobile (FWD Toronado), Mercedes-Benz (220S) and Volvo (240DL) but his little car, a GT series (with HO turbo) is one of the best, and easily the most fun, of any of them. Driver/ passenger comfort is great, it delivers good handling and gas mileage (up to 29mpg) as well as great performance - 0-60 in a little over 6 seconds and a top speed of 135 mph. Plan to keep this one a long time..

Advice: Weight the trade offs of gas mileage, price, and interior room between the vehicles you are looking at.I have the 2009 base LX model with automatic transmission. Easy to get in and out of. Seating is comfortable with good lower back support. Ride is firm but not harsh, handling is good, steering feel is excellent. Car is very quiet. Standard radio is good and gets good reception and has good sound. If you are familiar with the PT at all you know it has lots of room inside. That includes teh drivers and passengers seats - they are very roomy. The rear seats are also decent. One thing I like about the car is that it doesn't look like every other small car on the road. Another nice thing is that you can get a light color interior, not just the dark charcol that seems to be all that's availble in most cars. In fact, even though the PT is a fairly small vehicle it does not look small. The transmission shifts smoothly. The base engine is just adequate to propel the car. You have to be willing to let it rev up if you want to accelerate very fast. Figure 0 - 60 in about 10 seconds with the automatic. By todays standards thats not very quick but there was a time when that would have been considered better then average. In any case, it's enough power for any normal driving. The major issue with the PT is that the gas mileage by today's standards is about 4 mpg less then you'd expect for this engine size.

Cons: Turning ratio was VERY BAD, for a small car it requires a huge circle to turn around , trade in value was TERRIBLE, they depreciate badly! If you really want one, buy a gently used model, because the depreciation will KILL YOU!
Advice: Check out the new Subaru Forester, it's about the same price but it feels much larger inside and is all wheel driveI bought a 2005 PT Cruiser TURBO new back in 2005 and just traded it in for a Subaru Forester. I think the PT Cruiser was a very comfortable driving car with plenty of get up and go. I NEVER once had it in the shop so it had a GREAT reliability record. My only complaint was that the turning ratio was VERY bad, for a small car you need a football field to turn it around in. The other problem I had was with the fit and finish, one day while driing down the road the passenger visor just fell off onto the floor. The passenger seat is supposed to fold down flat to form a desk but it really never folded flat and had so much of an angle that your paperwork slides off. All in all it was not an expensive car to drive or own and the get up and go of the TURBO is really good. Didn't feel stable at speeds over 85 MPG, the steering wheel would shake and the car felt like it wasn't in good contact with the road at very high speeds.

Advice: Do not buy ChryslerI test drove this vehicle in several years and ended up purchasing the 2005. Talk about a big mistake, so far it's been to the dealer 3 times for 3 different problems. Not only that, but I had such bad experiences at the repair shop that I went to a different dealer each time. Unfortunately, Chrysler warranties don't help you if you need to go somewhere with competent mechanics. So, if you're willing to drive 1 hour to the 3rd closest dealer only to have the mechanic say, 'I don't understand why it won't work' only to have to pay out of pocket for a local company to fix it straight out in 4 hours, than maybe Chrysler is for you. Otherwise, try a company with reliable cars and reliable mechanics.
