2015 Chevrolet Tahoe Summary

Changes for the 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe:

Chevrolet has completely redesigned the full-size Tahoe for 2015, improving the full-size SUV’s comfort, functionality, fuel-efficiency, and technology. A new V-8 engine debuts, the third-row seat folds flat and never needs to be removed to maximize cargo space, and the Tahoe is now offered with a long list of infotainment and safety upgrades.

Model Lineup:

The 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe is sold in LS, LT, and LTZ trim levels and with rear-wheel or 4-wheel drive.

In standard format, the Tahoe seats eight people. Choose the LS trim level and buyers can opt for a front bench seat, improving capacity to nine passengers. The second- and third-row seats fold flat to expand cargo capacity, which tops out at 51.6 cu.-ft. behind the second-row seat and at 94.7 cu.-ft. behind the front seats.

Engines and Transmissions:

A new 5.3-liter V-8 engine with direct fuel injection and Active Fuel Management is standard in the 2015 Tahoe, paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Active Fuel Management shuts down half of the engine’s cylinders under certain driving conditions in order to conserve fuel.

The engine makes 355 horsepower and 383 lb.-ft. of torque, good for a tow rating of 8,600 pounds and a payload capacity of 1,760 lbs. Operate the engine on E85, and horsepower increases to 380 hp while torque peaks at 416 lb.-ft.

Fuel Economy Ratings:

Regardless of whether you select a Tahoe with rear-wheel drive or 4-wheel drive, it is rated to get 18 mpg in combined driving, according to the EPA.

Safety Ratings:

In crash tests conducted by the NHTSA, the 2015 Tahoe earns an overall rating of 4 stars. The SUV gets the top 5-star rating in all frontal-impact and side-impact assessments, but is downgraded due to its 3-star rollover resistance rating for both 2WD and 4WD models.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) had not performed crash tests on the new Tahoe as this summary was written.

Technology Highlights:

Standard equipment includes six free months of OnStar services, including Automatic Crash Response, Crisis Assist, and Emergency Services. The 2015 Tahoe is also equipped with a unique front center airbag, except when the optional front bench seat is installed in a Tahoe LS.

Optional safety features include front and rear parking assist sensors, Side Blind Zone Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Change Assist, an Adaptive Cruise Control system with Forward Collision Warning, and a Safety Alert Seat that vibrates when one of these systems detects that a situation requires the driver’s attention.

In addition to safety features, the new Tahoe is available with Chevrolet MyLink infotainment technology with an 8-inch color touchscreen. The system includes Bluetooth connectivity, five USB ports, an auxiliary audio input jack, satellite radio, and more. MyLink can be upgraded with a navigation system and HD Radio, and the Tahoe also offers an optional rear-seat entertainment system with a Blu-Ray DVD player.
