More times than not, when something is new and improved, it’s more expensive. Those nicer materials, that attractive new design, it all comes with a corresponding jack in the price, but that’s not the case with Chevrolet. Maybe it’s part of a New Year’s resolution to be nicer to consumers’ wallets, or maybe there’s actually some grasping of the idea that GM needs to be more competitive in terms of sticker price in order to move more units. Whatever the motivation, Chevy’s General Manager, Ed Peper, announced today that the two-wheel-drive 2007 Tahoe LS with a 5.3-liter V8 will be priced at $33,990, including an $875 destination charge. This represents a reduction of approximately $2,000 versus the 2006 model. A 4.8-liter model will be released later this year with an even lower base price. The 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe LT will start at $35,740, and the LTZ version will sticker at $44,015. Due to go on sale during the first part of 2006, the redesigned 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe features a fresh new look accented by clean body lines, hidden rocker panels, and sporty smoked headlights. The interior has been updated with improved materials and the look is more refined, thanks in large part to the elimination of the button-happy styling of the outgoing model. Power for the Tahoe comes from a 325-horsepower, 5.3-liter, small-block V8 with Active Fuel Management displacement on demand. Fuel economy will supposedly reach the low 20s on the highway. A smaller 4.8-liter V8 with 290 horsepower will also be offered. Among the new features available on the 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe are a power tumble-and-fold second row seat and a power tailgate with controls on the key fob, the center console, and the door.
