2014 Chevrolet Impala Video Review

The Impala represents one of Chevrolet's most iconic nameplates with such vehicles as the 1958 Impala, 62 SS, the late-sixties lineup, and the 1994-1996 SS four-door sedan. However, the past two-generations of Impala weren't iconic at all. They were more the vehicle you got when you asked for a full-size at the rental counter. Ouch. Chevrolet is hoping to change that and bring the icon back with the new 2014 Impala.

The 2014 Impala's exterior design is a dramatic departure from the last-gen model. Up front, the Impala takes some cues from the Camaro with a similar front clip design and scalloping along the hood. The side profile features two distinct character lines, embellished rear fenders, chrome trim, and a choice of eighteen, nineteen, and twenty-inch wheels.

Moving inside, the Impala is more luxurious and tech-laden than the outgoing model. Front passengers sit in front of a dual-brow dashboard that features the second-generation of Chevrolet's MyLink infotainment system. Backseat passengers will find an abundance of head and legroom.

Powering the Impala for the moment are two engines:

  • 2.5L EcoTec four-cylinder: 196 horsepower, 186 pound-feet of torque
  • 3.6L DI V6 w/VVT: 305 horsepower, 264 pound-feet of torque

Both engines are mated to a six-speed automatic transmission only. Coming soon will be a mild-hybrid version of the Impala which promises better fuel economy.

Fuel economy for the 2014 Impala is estimated by GM for:

  • 2.5L EcoTec four-cylinder: 21 City/31 Highway
  • 3.6L DI V6 w/VVT: 19 City/29 Highway

Pricing for the 2014 Impala starts at $27,535 for the base Impala LS equipped with the 2.5L and climbs up to $36,580 for the Impala 2LTZ with the 3.6L. Competitors to the 2014 Impala include the Ford Taurus, Hyundai Azera, and Toyota Avalon.
